Code #76X - 389 v8 engine, four barrel, 10:75 compression. - Has hard to find correct numbers matching block, intake manifold, both exhaust manifolds, heads, carb, air cleaner, fan, and valve covers. This car has been in dry indoor storage for the past 30 years. It was last licensed in the 80’s. I bought it from a fellow employee and have been restoring it for the past 10 years All trim including the rear taillights, painted correctly, rear gas cap opening, tail pieces, tail light lenses, body panels, interior, pedals, emergency brake controls and release, engine, engine manifolds, transmission, suspension are all 100% correct for this first year GTO. The photos were taken with emphasis on showing gaps, the depth of the restoration, quality of work and details. Additional photos are available. People who have seen this car, including inspectors, GTO owners and appraisers, have said the overall condition of fit and finish is better than original. The restoration included all new wiring, fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filters, fuel level sending unit, fuel tank straps, brake lines, master and wheel cylinders, brakes, and brake hardware. All new floors, and new single piece trunk were installed. The driver’s quarter panel was replaced due to a dent which occurred as a result of a 2 mph collision with the garage door opening. The collision occurred at the start of the restoration when the car was being rolled off the trailer and got away from the fellows who were unloading the car by hand from the trailer. There is no rust on this car. The underside is undercoated as it was from the factory to reduce noise and preserve it for another 50 years. The interior is 100% new including new foam cushions in the seats. The original T3 headlights are available. The differential has new bearings and seals. The engine has new rings, bearing, seals, cam, valve springs and a complete valve job. A reproduction window sticker showing the original ordered options from PHS is includes as is the PHS paperwork documenting this as a true first year GTO. The appraisal performed by certified appraisers on Sept 5, 2013 shows the value is $45,000. A copy of this appraisal will be included with the car. Car is currently titled, licensed and insured in Illinois. Inspections are welcome and encouraged. Cash or bank transfer payment is required within 96 hours (four days) is required. Buyer will need to arrange transportation. The Hagerty Price Guide for a 1964 Lemans with the GTO option, indicates the average value of this car increases 15 % due to it having a factory installed four speed transmission. The Hagerty Price Guide, based on sales information, shows the value of a first year GTO equipped as this one is, at $63K if it is rated #1. The value is $47K if the car is rated as a #2 car. The value of a #3 car is $27K. All values are increased by 15% for the factory 4 speed transmission. On Mar-30-14 at 08:47:24 PDT, seller added the following information: One of the over 1,273 different folks who have viewed this car, or possibly one of the 96 who are currently watching it, noticed that I made a mistake in the listing of the engine code. I incorrectly listed the engine code as a 76 X, but that would be for a tri-power engine. This engine is stamped 78X which is for a four barrel engine. The PHL documentation reflects the 78X engine and the W transmission. Upon request, I will send a photo to bidders showing the engine stamping which is the correct 78X W. However I do have a tri power manifold, linkage, carbs, but it is for a 1962 Pontiac 389, and will fit on a 1964- 389. That manifold and parts are available to the winning bidder. I contacted EBAY to removed one photo and added a photo of the engine stamping, but they indicated as there are bids, I cannot change any photos. Additionally, please note the miles are now reading 1,232. Please send me your contact information and set up an inspection so all of your questions will be answered. It has reached the Reserve and it will sell, just in time for the summer, some 50 years after it was first delivered. Thanks you for bringing this to my attention. Sorry for the mistake I made. On Mar-31-14 at 22:04:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Some potential bidders ask why there have been retracted bids. It seems DTIPPMANN and CTALIS both retracted their very high bids because the bids were entered only to uncover the reserve price. Once the reserve is known the bidder can retract the bid stating they placed the wrong bid The bids they put in were $39,000, $30,000 and after finding out the reserve DTIPPMANN put in the exact bid amount which was $27,000, then after two days retracted that bid. A fellow Ebayer indicated to me that having the bids retracted might look like there is something wrong with the car, and the bid retractor or a friend of the bid retractor can call after the bidding is done and perhaps buy the car cheaper. He also wondered if they were “dealers” At any rate, I have put both on a list where they can not bid on anything I list in the future. Sad for the folks who like Ebay. DTIPPMANN officially retracted his second bid because I changed the listing to reflect the correct numbers matching engine code of 78X. I had incorrectly placed a 76X for an engine code. Three other places in the posting it says it is a 389 4Barrel engine.
