CFO was the designator that they used in 77,78 to identify the motors that were Californina, Florida and Oregon compliant....or in laymans terms, the dumbed down motorcycle to meet US pollution requirements.....my understanding was there were less than 200 that came in that were NOT CFO's. I had one in 1977, bike was totalled in 1981 (not by me) CFO engines,have smaller exhaust pipes (38mm) Carbs again 38mm and valves NON CFO had all 40 mm hope that helps
