Vehicle Detail
My mission statement is simple; I want to make smooth transactions leaving both of us willing to do business again. I am striving for 100% positive feedback. A very nice classic airhead, mechanically sound that runs very good. This bike is a great candidate for a full restoration project. Cosmetics are definitely showing its age since paint and the rest of bike is very original. A few replaced items, however mostly like it was built in May of 1976. Production of this model ended in June of 1976, making this one of the last 900 S bikes made. The motorcycle had been neglected and not touched for almost 25 years when purchased. The good news is that it has been in a dry climate, so while weather and age related fading is present, there is almost no corrosion and rust. We checked the bike carefully, and decided not to restore it ourselves; however we did some mechanical work to determine the soundness of the running condition. The engine is in very good condition and the pictures show some of what we found and steps we took to correct needed items, making it mechanically sound and dependable. We did a fresh top end, with a replacement of one new rocker arm and shaft. Also a good cleanup, cylinder hone, with new piston rings. All gaskets and seals were replaced, including the oil, pan, cylinder head, valve covers, push rod tubes etc. We inspected and checked mechanicals, lubed replaced or repaired and adjusted all that was necessary. Of course we installed new plugs, and tuned the engine. We installed all fluids, and filters, and an AGM battery. Importantly we completely rebuilt the 38MM Dellorto Carburetors, with all new parts, gaskets etc. as needed. New throttle cables were installed. What is needed is fresh paint, the S fairing, some instrumentation, tires, along with a seat cover, and miscellaneous parts to complete the process. The bike runs like it should, smooth, quiet, and feels very good overall. The lighting all works, but some switches are stuck and need a fix or replace, nothing was forced so it remains original All instruments work, speedometer, odometer, voltmeter, warning and condition lights, brake lights, and turn signals. The clock is missing. Brakes are excellent in front; the rotors are like new and measure 5.16 and 5.19 mm. hardly any wear so at some point apparently replaced. Fluid replaced and brakes bled. Rear brakes ok, work like most airhead drum brakes. Rear spline condition shown in pictures, freshly cleaned and lubed, wear indicates no abuse and speaks to overall mechanical condition of bike we observed. The front end needs new fork seals and gaiters, we left alone. The forks also have an aftermarket top clamp and fork brace, very popular items for the period to enhance stability. Clutch action and transmission is smooth and works as it should. The original dual seat and seat pan were missing, and we replaced with another pan which has a Corbin seat. This item will need attention and the seat recovered or replaced. Included are BMW/Krauser saddlebag luggage mounts and parcel rack. While we cannot assure there are no mechanical issues, the bike runs and handles like it is supposed to and the engine has no leaks. The gas tank is clean and rust free, the interior of the tank is absolutely like new, with a pristine original red coating. We have included multiple pictures to show as accurately as possible the exact condition of the bike.
