Vehicle Detail

1966 Corvette Convertible with 427/425 HP Four Speed. This Car has been in and out of storage for over 35 years. The Owner Hired My Company to bring the Car back to Life and make it a Dependable Driver for His Wife. We removed the Engine and found the Block and Left Head had been replaced. We checked all the other components and found they are all the correct original parts the Car left the factory with. We then Purchased a 1966 Correct Block and Left Head, at a cost of $6,000.00, Both are correct Casting numbers and correct date codes for our Car's productuion date. The Car is now all number Matching. We had the Block Restamped with our Vin Number to complete the project. The Motor was bored .030, crank .010, New Pistons, New Original Cam and Lifters. Heads rebuilt all new Valves & Springs and Balanced.. The Car Runs like New. We rebuilt all the suspension & Brakes. The Frame top side, under the Hood ,was painted in semi-gloss black and the rest of the Frame on the bottom side was wire brushed & painted just to clean it up. The Frame is in excellent rust free condition and the Body was not removed. Our Goal was a high quality Driver that looked as good as it Runs. This is not a Bloomington Gold Show Car and not priced like one either. The Top is in Good useable condition, but looks like it might be the original. No Rips or tears, just looks older. The Radio was rebuilt ($550.00) along with the clock . The Wiper Motor was rebuilt and never used until today and it does not work now. All the Components on the Motor are rebuilt originals and We went with the New Heavy Duty Aluminum Radiator, rather than the poor quality origuinal. This Car now Cools like it should have when New. The 427's were hard to cool in hot summer days with the original radiator.. The Replacement looks like the original, but no date codes. The Knock Off Wheels came with the Car when My owner purchased the Car.. They were in tattered Boxes and appeared to have been purchased 25 years ago. They are Reproductions. Only Difference to the Originals is the back side you can't see. The OE Wheels were rough cast on the back side & the Repos are Machine Finish. Outside they are the same. These are the Knock Offs, not Bolt on's We installed a complete new interior in the original Black 2 years ago. The Car was originaly yellow. It was repainted in Rally Red Lacquer 30 years ago and done exceptionaly well. The Paint Buffed up and Looks fantastic. there is one stress crack, very minor, about 4 inches long just under the Corvette Emblem on the Right Rear, You have to look to find it. They Painted the Door Jambs and the only place I found any yellow was under the Rear Carpet when We replaced it. The Data Plates Shown in the pictures show the Original yellow color. Back in the 60's yellow was considered a Feminine color so the Guys much prefered the Red.. This is a Local Car that has spent most of it's life in storage.. We know the Man that bought it new and the Two Guys after Him and then the Car disapeared for 30 years and resurfaced 7 years ago and purchased by the current owner. It is a Genuine 427/425 HP Car, but there is no way We can document that. We contacted the Original owners family and the Guy is Deceased and they had no paper work on the Car. They knew He purchased it from a small dealer close to here, but don't remember which Dealer. Gas Tank Stickers started in 1967, So thats not here either. All We can prove is it is a number Matching Car and We have talked with the #2 and #3 owners which verify it is the Real Thing, not a made up car. We paid the State of Illinois $100 to run a Title Search and all they came up with is the current owner. Ask any questions before Bidding. All Sales are Final. The Odometer shows 30,900 and We all believe that is the True Mileage judging from all the known storage over the years. Nothing was worn out on the Suspension or Brakes, Just Old, So We installed all New wear components to be safe. The Trans is the M-21 Close Ratio and We think the Rear end is a 3.70 Posi. The Tires are like New Black Wall Radials. All The Chrome on the Car is Excellent. The Dash & Instruments are 100% Original and Un touched. We repainted the Black on Cosole, but nothing on the Dash or Glove Box and Repainted the Steering Column. I think leaving the Dash original and untouched Lets you see the True Condition of the Car.. We are relisting the Car, No Dealers Please, WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN WHOLESALE WITH THIS CAR! The Owner has over $80,000 invested. These Cars will bring in the $140,000 range if brought to Show Quality. You can drive this Car as is and in a few years finish the Restoration and you will be under the Market Value.
