Vehicle Detail

I have owned this car approximately 20 years. I think I am the second owner, but cannot confirm. I spotted the car abandoned in a field. The front air vent window on the passenger side was broken which allowed rain water to enter. The floor pans were rusted out . (FLOOR PANS WILL NEED REPLACING.) I finally located the owner and made the purchase and immediately stored the car in a Dry barn for the first ten years. For the next ten years, the car was outside wrapped and covered with a tarp. The car rolls very easily. I was in the process to start restoration plans on this 356B when I became disabled in 1994 and have never recovered my health to complete my restoration projects. While stored in the dry barn, the front windshield and back glass were removed and stacked on a windshield rack in an auto glass and upholstery shop. I was informed last year that the storage rack collapsed breaking the original windshield and rear glass. These will not be replaced by seller. The headlights, front / back light lens, headlight rings and original radio were also removed and placed in a box, and stored away. My recent decision to sell the 356 started my search for this box which has not been successful. If found, these last boxed items will be shipped to buyer. I recently received the COA from North American Porsche Club confirming that the VIN, Body, Transmission, Paint Color and Upholstery are original and the numbers match. The Engine is a 1600 S (Type 616/2 T2), Engine # 83980, Part of lot range 83146 to 84770 and is Factory Original. The engine number listed on the Certificate of Authenticity supplied by North American Porsche doesn’t match the engine number on the engine in this car, but please refer to photos taken of Porsche 356 Serial Numbers Reference Site which explains the engine number discrepancy of the Kardex listing. (In 1960-63, the Porsche factory did not install engines in cars in a sequential order. For this reason a particular engine might be a newer or Higher Serial number than an older engine yet installed in an older car. This occurred frequently around a model year break.) The 83146 - 84770 lot of engines were installed in the 1960-62 356 cars. The body lines are straight and I haven’t witnessed any body filler or body work on the vehicle. It doesn't appear to ever have been been wrecked. Front and back fenders aren't in alignment due to bent fender braces, but fenders are fairly straight. The car had a steel cable attached to the front bumper which may have been used previously to tow the car to the field. This might explain why the fender bracket was bent. All body panels seem to be straight and tight. I recently removed the passenger door handle to lubricate the door latch as you can see in the photo. Door hinges are straight and doors are in alignment with body when closed. Both doors open and close perfectly as do the back deck lid and front trunk lid which also line up with body. The only outside body rust, other than surface rust, is a small area located on the front quarter panel next to the front of the driver's door. It is a little bubbled, but not rusted thru. (Shown in one of the photos.) Door jams and hinges are rust free. I removed the inside door upholstery panels and the inside of doors look very good and are not rusted. You will most likely have to replace the front toe brace that connects to the front floor pan. Right or left longitudinal members might need replacement. I don't have any information regarding condition of engine and the original owner cannot be located. It doesn’t seem to turn over by hand crank so I have recently removed spark plugs and sprayed engine lubricant in the cylinders. Interior original headliner and upholstery: Upholstery needs to be replaced, headliner is questionable. Plan on all new interior if you're doing a full restoration. Everything seems to be Original and this car could be a very GOOD ORIGINAL RESTORATION !!
