Vehicle Detail

There have been issues with being able to respond to Bidders Questions via E-bay. Not sure what the problem is. If you are interested in this great classic vehicle and have a question or want to set-up an appointment, call me. 847 942 4215 Thanks, Bill You are bidding on a true survivor vehicle. This is a two owner , un-restored classic with 26,000 ORIGINAL MILES. I recently had is appraised for insurances purposes so I believe the best the best way to describe it is to share the report from the Authorized Inspector of the International Vehicle Appraisers Network. This way you get a very unbiased idea of the condition. I also have the original Bill of Sale from the dealership. If you have specific questions, just shoot me an e-mail, you will get honest answers as quick as possible. I have taken this to several shows (Including "World of Wheels" ) and received many compliments as to the great look of this vehicle. It starts and runs without fail, it drives true and smooth. Note: I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time. Appraisal Comments: Special Features Odometer reading:(26,321) Vehicle is powered by a 265 CID V-8 developing 170 h. p. attached to a Powerglide automatic transmission. Some factory options on this vehicle are: AM radio, driver's side outside rear view mirror, and windshield washers. Comments Engine/Engine Compartment: Engine compartment has some dirt, grease and surface rust with owner wishing to keep vehicle in “survivor” condition. Engine compartment displays no excessive rust, collision damage or repairs. Engine has partial orange/red Chevrolet paint and, as stated above, some surface rust. Wiring is original and routed in factory looms. Entire compartment appears to be bone-stock original. Chassis: Underside of vehicle has been undercoated probably by the dealer when new and has protected the vehicle well from the northern Illinois weather. Undercoating has flaked off in several areas. I observed no excessive rust, collision damage or repairs to the frame or floor pans. There is minor oil leakage from the engine but none from the transmission or rear axle. The exhaust tail pipes have some surface rust and appear entirely serviceable while the muffler has been recently replaced looking brand new. The wheels are standard GM steel style in original good condition. Tires are older Sears brand G-78 X 15” wide whitewall displaying no sidewall cracking with good tread. Interior: Doors are in very good original condition with no waviness, sun or water damage. However, the driver's door has some wear noted on the built-in arm rest. Owner noted that the seats have been recovered in a quality exact replacement fabric/vinyl original pattern design, has been installed in a professional manner and is in excellent condition. The carpeting has also been replaced with a color/style that matches the original and is also in excellent condition. Headliner is original with no rips, tears or water damage. Instrument panel is in very good condition with no dents or scratches to the panel itself. Instrument faces, control buttons and bright metal bezels are all in very good original condition. Exterior: Exterior paint is mostly original factory applied having a very high gloss. Some panels have been repainted as some time in the original factory colors in a professional manner with no drips, runs or poor prep noted. Since the factory-applied paint is over fifty years old, there are some scratches and minor dents but during the inspection I found no serious denting or rusting of the rockers, lower fender areas or the typical rust-prone places on these 1950's vehicles. Chrome front and rear bumpers are original, have thin chrome and some scratches but are undented. Also the stainless trim has some scratches but is undented. The pot metal chrome mostly is pitted but this is that the owner wishes the vehicle to be in its original state as much as possible. All glass is scratch, crack and stone chip free is factory-installed having the correct GM Libby-Owens-Ford “bug” on all glass. Summary/Comments This example of a 1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air four-door sedan has not been restored or being restored since it is a “survivor” vehicle. Most of the vehicles that have emerged from the 1950's have been treated as works of art and given a complete restoration of each nut and bolt but not with this vehicle. The owner realizes that he has something unique – a low mileage, basically untouched from the factory car, and has decided to try to keep it as delivered from the Janesville Chevrolet factory. He has replaced the carpeting and seat covers because they were just too far gone, but as much as possible he kept the car as delivered. Many marque clubs are realizing the these “factory-fresh” vehicles are disappearing and need to be retained to understand how cars were actually built – not how they, in many cases, are meticulously restored. I would rate this vehicle to be in number three condition (out of six). ADDED INFORMATION: FUEL LINES AND GAS TANK ARE NEW, BRAKES AND BRAKE LINES ARE NEW, REAR SPRINGS ARE NEW , MUFFLER IS NEW. I HAVE LOTS OF UNDERCARRIDGE PICTURES I CAN SEND TO ANYONE INTERESTED. THANKS, BILL
