Vehicle Detail

1974 Plymouth Duster 340. Plum crazy purple. 340, 727, 8 3/4 3:91 sure grip. For sale is my 1974 Plymouth Duster. This Mopar is my baby but with a baby on the way I must sell. I lost track of how much I have invested but I know what I am asking is no where near what I have invested. I will give a detailed description of this car below however if you have any questions whatsoever or need more detailed pictures please feel free to ask. A little history: This Duster started its life as a 225 Slant six, 904 trans, 7 1/4 rear car. Original color was a light brown/tan color. This is a Florida car and has only been in Michigan since 2009. This car is amazingly solid and has never had any rust or body panels ever replaced. All original metal. Engine: Previous owner removed the 225 slant six after he spun a bearing and replaced it with a 1984 318 engine. He also converted the K member to the small block V8. The 318 ran great but my dream was to always have a 340 Duster even though in 74 the 340 was replaced with the 360. I still wanted my 340. So I removed the 318 and 904 after I found this 340 in Indiana. The Duster is now equipped with a 1968 340 wedge engine which was the first year of the mighty 340 which was know as the giant killer in its hay day. All machine work was done on the block. Hot tanked, bored .30 over, honed all cylinders, cam bearings installed, and new freeze plugs installed by a machine shop. Engine has stock 340 crank. All new cam and main bearings. I used nothing but ARP bolts on everything from main bolts tohead bolts. Reconditioned stock 340 rods. New Keith Black pistons. New Crane Energizer cam with .480 lift. New lifters. New hardened push rods. Engine has J heads with 2.02 intake valves. Heads completely redone. Has Eldelbrock aluminum dual plane intake. Eldelbrock AVS 600 carb. Mopar performace valve covers and air cleaner. Also has Mopar Performance new distributor and igniton. This 340 runs strong. I've put just under 9, 000 miles on it since rebuild. It ran mid 14s with 3:23s and now runs mid 13s with new 3:91 posi set up. Also has Headman headers with 3 inch exhaust with turn downs before the rearrear end and flowmaster super 10 serious mufflers. Car is loud and sounds mean and aggressive. Does a 126 on the richter scale on the muffler rap at car shows. Transmission: Took the old 904 out and bought a 727 from a local master Mopar guy who is amazing by the way. He did all the trans, rearend, and engine tuning on this car. All the Mopar guys go to him. He tore the 727 apart and completely rebuilt it. Everything is new. He installed a shift kit also. Trans has a Hughes Performance 2500-2800 stall convertor. Trans shift nice and firm and makes the tires chirp when it shifts. He also had a new custom driveshaft made since the original driveshaft with the 904 was too long with the 727. He also installed a B@M z gate floor shifter for me however the original column shift remains in the car. Rearend: Original 7 1/4 rear was taken out and replaced with an A body 8 3/4 rear out of a 1971 340 Duster. We orignally had the rear rebuilt with 3:23s but have recently replaced with a new 3:91 sure grip center section. Made a big difference. I still have the 3:23 center section 741 case that can go back in the car. This will be included with the car. Suspension: The suspension has a ton of new parts also. Leaf springs are new super stock springs from Mopar Performance. Also has new air shocks from Summit Racing. The front suspension includes new shocks, ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, and tie rod ends. Wiring: I replaced the engine wiring with a brand new harness from Yearone. So that's all in perfect shape. All lights work. Wipers work. Dash lights work. All gauges including volts, temp, and gas work perfect. Speedo works also. I have a sunpro oil pressure gauge and tach installed under the dash. Break lights work as well. Back up lights do not work currently. Needs safety switch hooked up to trans. Its currently bypassed. Also needs a horn but has the wiring there ready for one. Also has new ballast resistor and new Mopar Performance voltage regulator. Body: The body is in great shape and as mentioned before is all original metal. Car is VERY solid and has no rust!!!! Floor pans, trunk pan, and frame rails are amazing on this car. I've been told not to sell this car because of that alone but I can't help it. There are no big dings or scratches however the car does get driven on nice days and to car shows so minor scratches and chips are to be expected. The car was painted plum crazy when I got it but was severely faded from the Florida sun. Also previous owner did not paint and of the jamns or engine bay. I had the car repainted 2 yrs ago plum crazy purple with clear coat. Looks a lot better than it did. I would say this is a nice driver paint job. Not a $10k job but a nice driver paint job. I just recently restored the grille. You will notice in pics its black and now its the correct argent silver with new lenses and gaskets. The side stripe is the 1971 340 style. Not correct for 74 but its my favorite Duster stripe so I went with that. Also has new Duster emblems on the fenders. Has new door handles and side marker lenses front and back also. Has a 340 snorkle hood scoop that is functional. Has the Mopar Go Wing on the trunk that's in perfect shape. All glass is good. The windshield is brand new and rest of the glass is original. The back glass has Mopar Performance engraved in it by the previous owner. The bumpers are in pretty good shape. Some pitting and hazing. I was going to have them rechromed shortly. Wheels and tires: Wheels and tires both are new. Has 14 inch American Racing Outlaw 2 wheels all the way around. Also has BFG Radial TA's all the way around. Other: Car still has manual drum breaks all the way around. Car stops good for having manual breaks. Was going to convert to power breaks and disc in the front in the near future. Car has power steering which works great. Has electric choke on the carb. Trunk mat. New trunk seal. Windows are tinted. Interior: Has new carpet. Original headliner. New custom purple and black door and rear panels. New grant steering wheel with Mopar logo button. Has front bench that was original white and has been dyed black. Was going to have it recovered purple and black. Looks good and all foam and sprimgs are good. Does have a small rip in the seam on the driver side. Rear bench seat has been dyed black also and in good shape. Does have a small rip on the driver side also. Previous owner painted the dash purple but the dash is solid. I was going to pull the dash this winter and have it professionally done. Has new glove box liner. Heater controls work. I took the car Mopar Nationals this past August and got to meet. MR. NORM. He actually sat in the car and signed the glove box door. That was too cool!!! Extras: Car comes with the extra 3:23 gears and center section. Also comes with a extra very nice dash wiring harness. Comes with extra set of taillights and bezels. Comes with an extra grille and headlight bezels also. What I feel car still needs or I wanted to do: Carpet is new but I was going to replace again because it was not trimmed perfect on the passenger side. Only bothers me because I know its there and it bugs me. The front breaks may need a small adjustment. They just started to pull to the right just a bit but still stop good. Was going to recover the front and rear bench seats. Driver side of engine has a small header leak. I just need to install new header gasket. New tires need balanced better. Has small vibration between 60-65 mph. Will have this done this week. I hope I have covered everything for the most part. If not feel free to ask I'm willing to help. Local pickup only. I cannot deliver car but am willing to assist with pickup and shipping. Thanks for looking at my Mopar. MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!
