1959 Chevrolet El Camino A TRUE BARN FIND ORIGINAL '59 FOR TOTAL RESTORATION INSIDE DRY COLORADO STORAGE 37 YEARS* El Camino *Hello, what your looking at here is a Barn Find1959 Chevrolet El Camino. This El Camino started life in dry Colorado and then was parked in 1977. The car was owned by a young man at the time that went into the Army and his dad sold the car in 1977 upon his departure to the rancher who put it in the barn. The License Plates and registration are still with the car from 1977 in his dads name. The title also is Colorado 1977 in the ranchers name who has passed away in 2011. The title is free and clear and signed off correct. The son (now retired) heard of the 59 just recently and found his high school 59 still sitting in the barn just as it was left in '77 and pulled it out this spring of 2013. He decided to sell the car due to too much work needed, due to having cancer that requires too much work on this 59 for him to handle. I purchased the car with a parts car and have decided to restore the parts car instead of the '59 El Camino. I can not do both at this time. Too many projects already going. This 1959 has Original colors showing in Original White and Roman Red. These 59's have increased in value over the last several years and are getting very hard to find in unrestored original condition. A picture of the '59 in 1976 is shown also. It had the 348 Big Block Hood way back then and we don't know why that hood was on the car with a 6 cyl unless at some point in time it has a big block in there? The red hood has been removed and another grey primer 348 big bloc hood is now on the car as shown. this is how the car is currently sold as-is, non running condition. Tires and wheels are older B.F. Goodrich 50's and 60's with deep dish aluminum custom Cragar rims.Numbers for the Vin and Trim Tag:VIN: G59S146861 TRIM PLATE: STYLE: 59-1280 BODY: SL 1566 TRIM: 803 PAINT: 973C ACC: 31 32A 12B First the Overall Drivetrain. Sitting since 1978 in dry storage: A 235 6 CYL, STARTED IT FOR A QUICK TEST RUN FOR 30 SECONDS. IT DOES TURN OVER AND START AND RUN, WITH CAN GAS. SELLING AS A NON RUNNING UNIT THOUGH. AS-ISThe Overall Main Body Condition: The body is original and has original color codes red and white factory two tone. The main rear floors and are rustouts in the lower spots, has metal pans as replacements patched in. Hard to find on any 60 Impala today. The main and upper wheel houses are ok, the overall body is pretty solid, lower & inner rockers have some rust outs also.The doors are good little seam rust, the hood will need work as it has a bondo area of dent damage, the bed gate is 90% good with some minor rusting starting, Main X Frame overall is good rear body bed mounts will need minor patch. there is bed plate rust in the front that could be repaired. The lower stow away area is pretty good looking underside. Overall Interior Condition: The Interior is all original factory as delivered with some swap out front garnish moldings in blue instead of grey, the original grey ones are with extra parts. The headliner and seats were ok till the mice got them and got to the stuffing and now show some holes, the mice are gone. door panels are sun baked at top but are all originals. The carpet was removed due to smell and the rubber padding is stuck to the floors. Looks like he raised the front seat up a few inches for height with wood blocks at some point. The main dash is good, some newer gauges replacing originals, all worked when battery was connected, main lights, spot light, radio all worked! Stainless & Chrome: The stainless and chrome are in driver good shape. The stainless trim has minor dings, scratches, but all can be restored to show condition with nothing missing. The main chrome is driver quality original and the Pot Metal is ok also, no bad pitting. The grill is very nice with the grill bar! Headlight surrounds are rough. Rear tail light bezels and lenses are good!. All good to driver quality that can be made show restored. its all there all the hard to find 59 El Camino bed surround stuff and inner bed stuff!Glass & Weather Seals Rubber: The Glass is all original and has pit marks and the side flat glass passenger side is cracked. The windows operate ok doors open and close ok key operates lock and ign. Weatherstrip is old but in place and functioning. Overall lower costing initial investment and nice Original unrestored 1959 Chevrolet El Camino waiting to get back on the road again. Good Investment Classic Chevrolet first year El Camino to have alot of fun with as a driver and get the thumbs up looks while doing it. Be watching here, as more Classics should be popping up soon.
