Vehicle Detail
Tired of seeing nothing but 30's and 40's Ford rat rods with a SBC in it on ebay or at drive nights? How about a '57 Willys truck sitting on 17's with a ford 302 in it? The stock Willy frame was used as a starting point then Z'd in the front 14 inches and 22 inches in the rear, and the frame has been boxed in firewall forward.. The cab is just about exactly like I found it in the field, still rusty with lots of holes dents and rust. I did replace the windshield with lexan. The seats are some 60's buckets, and the passenger seat hides the battery. The bed, or lack of is whats left of the salvageable sections that were on the truck. The suspension is right out of the book of Richard Rawlings from Fast & Loud! It is donated from a 2006 Crown Victoria cop car. The aluminum crossmember bolts to the willys frame and houses the suspension and steering. Even the sway bar was mounted to the front stubs of the frame. The rear end is from the cop car as well using all the Watts link brackets and sway bar. The engine is a bone stock 302 out of an '82 crown vic. The only aftermarket parts on it is the new HEI distributor and the holley 2bbl carb (that ISN'T new, but works) I made rough brackets to hold the power steering pump and alternator. The exhaust is the stock manifolds for the engine, I was going to build some headers but never got around to it, the steering shaft is pretty close to the exhaust but it works fine. I consider this a "throw away" engine, it was probably high miles, and does have a rear seal leaking but its not to bad. When I built the truck I painted the engine so it at least looks nice. In a truck this light it does scream though! And sounds surprisingly good and meaty with the stock exhaust chopped off at the manifolds. The tranny is a C4 that is all stock. Interior wise all I did was put the buckets in, do some pretty crude patch work to the floors, and mount the B&M Quicksilver shifter to the floor along with a Speedo, oil, batt, and temp gauges that all match. I even left the old home made gun rack in the back window. The outside of the body is a cool faded teal color with years of show. The radiator is in the bed, and 1 1/4 galvanized pipe was used for the long legs of the plumbing under the cab to a new radiator. The brake pedal is mounted under the floor. It has a good set of goodyears on it that are on flat black 17 inch wheels. The gas tank is out of a new Holland combine for the 50's This thing is wild looking, and rough looking for a reason. I am in the middle of building a 40's ford truck and was tired of double checking how everything looked so I to a break to get it out of my system and build the nastiest, most violent looking ride I could imagine! There is absolutely no refinement in this truck, it looks like it was just pulled out of a giant junk pile, exposed weld, rust, ect. But with the suspension it handles like no other rat rod on the street! That suspension is getting really popular with hot rodders since they started putting them in trucks on fast & loud, so I would imagine that this is the FIRST rat with it. Happy bidding! NO RESERVE!!!
