Vehicle Detail

Here's something that doesn't come along very often-a vintage low mileage big bore enduro in excellent condition that hasn't been thrashed to death. It was bought new by a close friend of mine who purchased it to ride the power lines with his sons. After a couple of years and only 1100 miles they soon realized that this bike was much heavier and more powerful than they had bargained for. It was then parked until last fall. These large displacement XL/XR series bikes are really much better suited for the California deserts than the woods of New England. You better know what you're doing when you grab a fistful of throttle with this baby. This particular bike is almost totally original including paint, tires, exhaust, seat cover and plastic. I gave it a good cleaning, resprayed the exhaust, handlebars and touched up a few spots on the frame where your boots rub against it. I replaced the side cover decals and polished the plastic. The paint on the gas tank has a few scratches, but has the original decals and is way to nice to do over. The speedo face looks like new. The seat cover is excellent with no rips or tears. The original exhaust has never been rusty and is in perfect condition including the baffle. The zipper on the tank bag is broken. Mechanically I replaced the tubes, chain, spark plug, light bulbs and ran through the maintenence schedule. The inside of the gas tank is spotless and the bike has never been run on ethanol fuel. The carb was clean as well. This is not your typical hard starting XR. It starts on 2-3 kicks from cold and a single kick when warm. The compression release is built into the kickstart and works automatically. It did smoke a bit when first started but cleared up after 30 seconds or so. That being said the motor is oil tight and makes all the right noises. The bike runs and rides like you would expect from a machine that has had so little use. The suspension is tight; it pulls extremely hard and tracks straight. The lights and speedo work as does the kill switch. The original tires are not the least bit cracked or weathered and have plenty of tread. Honda tried using a 23" front wheel for better handling on the XR500 in '79 and '80. This is also the last year for the traditional rear shock suspension. I have the original title and the owner is available to sign it over. The bike was bought new at Majestic Motors in Cranston, Rhode Island. As RI is a title optional state its very rare to get a title with a dirt bike, let alone one this old. The original bill of sale and owner's manual are included. I am a contractor not a bike dealer and my goal is to resurrect, enjoy and pass these bikes on to people who will use and preserve them for future generations. If you grew up in the 60's or 70's and lusted after these bikes you know what I'm talking about. I have been a member of the EBay community since 1999 and have never had a bad experience buying or selling. My aim is to keep it that way. Please call 508 823-7327 with any questions or concerns before you bid. I have set a very low reserve which I won't disclose so please don't ask. $200 paypal deposit required; balance within 7 days. The bike can be picked up at my place of business but you make all the arrangements and pay for shipping. I WILL BE AT MID-OHIO THIS MONTH SO DELIVERY BETWEEN MASS. AND OHIO IS POSSIBLE.
