Vehicle Detail

1970 Chevelle Convertible. Frame on restoration in 2004. 307 with 4-speed and Pearl interior (1970 was the only year with Pearl interior). I worked on this car for long hours. The entire car was stripped of every part during the restoration. The body was taken down to bare metal. The block and trans were left on the car during the restoration process. 94855 miles showing. The car drives smooth and straight and always starts right up. Even the ignition buzzer works! Clear Michigan title. I have two build sheets. The only one I can currently find is the brittle one that is in several pieces. I have a picture of the good one that is about 75% complete. I know I have it somewhere and should be able to locate it. The car is a head turner where ever you go. Endless compliments. It is a blast to drive. Amazingly, the 307 puts out power like a built 350 and sounds tough. I know, it’s only a 307 but it sounds awesome and has plenty of power. I have had this over 100 with a smooth controlled ride – incredibly fun to drive! I’ve put approximately 2000 miles on it since the restoration. Okay, why am I selling? I am relocating to Phoenix and cannot reasonably bring all my vehicles. My loss is your gain! The details: Body: Every part of the car was removed and the shell brought down to bare metal. The prior owner had a full floor pan professionally installed for $1300. Original quarters were retained. Some metal patching around the wheel well areas and lower part of the quarters. Small patches above the rear tail lamps. Minimal bondo used and only were needed to ensure a smooth finish. The body was actually in pretty good shape overall for a 34 year old car at the time. Quality primer, sealer, and the original Cranberry Red #75 paint were used and two coats of clear. The clear was only minimally wet sanded and buffed. New fenders were primed and painted the same way. New inner fenders were primed and painted. I used a different set of doors. The trunk is original and solid. It was prepped and correct color spackled with a new trunk mat. New front and rear bumpers and bolt kit. All emblems are new. New wheel well chrome, door handles, mirror, and hood trim. Frame: Every part of the reachable frame was wire wheeled down to bare metal, primed, and then hand painted satin black. The frame was solid with no visible signs rust through and only had surface rust. Minimal to no scale rust. Installed new shocks and I believe all 4 springs. Engine: Stripped down to the block, wire wheeled to bare metal, and high temp Chevrolet Orange paint. Top end completely rebuilt. A different set of small block heads were used and completely rebuilt and machined professionally. New valves, springs, guides, seals, pushrods, lifters, and aluminum roller rockers were used. A new performance mild lift cam installed. A new Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and a new Holley 600 CFM with vacuum secondary’s tops the engine. A new HEI distributer provides the fire along with new wires and plugs. New fuel pump. New head bolt set used. All new hoses with the exception of the power steering hoses. Transmission: 4 speed Saginaw. New clutch and fly wheel resurfaced in 2008. Cooling System: Stock radiator was retained, cleaned, and painted. New GM hoses used. Engine Compartment components: Every bracket, panel, horn, starter, power steering pump, etc. was taken down to bare metal, primed, and painted. Exhaust: New headers, performance mufflers, and heavy gauge exhaust installed. Rubber Components: All rubber bushings, weather stripping, bumpers, gaskets, seals, etc. were replaced with the exception of the body bushings as it was a frame on restoration. Wheels: Set of 15” Rally’s with used dog dish covers. I never got the trim rings. Hood: OEM domed cowl induction hood. I have the flapper door components and solenoid only which are not installed. The flapper door will need to be repainted do to shelf wear. Lighting: All new signal lenses. Headlamps are original T-3 bulbs. Convertible: Appears to be the original white top that is in remarkably good condition for 43 years. The roof rubber was partially replaced. I have the remaining new rubber that wasn’t installed. The top functions perfectly. New well mat. Interior: 2008 new Pearl seat covers, door panels, carpet, arm rests, window cranks, door handles, lock buttons, and sill plates. Original dash pad which is perfect. Original floor mats. Brakes: All new wheel cylinders and shoes. Brakes work great for drums, no leaks, no pulling. Extras: Complete jack setup. The base, J clamp, and lug wrench were taken to bare metal, primed, and painted. The jack itself is in original condition. This is not the original jack that came with the car. A new or very good original manual is included. I will include a 1970 GM Chassis Manual also. Two new GM hood springs in the package are included. I will include an old AM radio that I believe is a 1970 to fill the radio dash hole which is intact. The bad: One front signal does not blink and one rear tail lamp brake light does not work. Backup light switch not hooked up. Other than that the lights work great. Paint is overall very good. The clear appears to have solvent pop in several areas. This resulted in small dimples in the clear. Most people do not notice this unless you are looking closely five feet or closer. Additional wet sanding may remove the visibility of these. The doors and fenders need better adjusting to increase or decrease the panel gaps. The front windows need better adjusting for a better fit when the top and windows are up, which is seldom when driving the car. There is small bubbling at the rear corners above the tail lamps. There are a couple of paint chips that could be touched up but are not readable noticeable except for one on the right door which is smaller than pea size. The plastic rear window is hazy. The top has a rip and minor cracking at some seams which is very minor considering the age of the top. The dash lens is dusty. Wiper washer pump not working. The left door inside handle does not fully release the latch and needs the linkage adjusted. The right door outer push button does not fully release the latch and needs the push pad adjusted. The right front wheel chrome has a 1” gouge in it. The right side rocker chrome trim piece is not installed but it does go with the car. The car looks and drives great so I have not attempted to make the corrections along with being super busy with work, family, military reserves, and other projects. The only items that require skill to correct are the rear bubbling and clear coat. Again, these are minor cosmetic issues and do not necessitate any correction unless you are going for show quality. I am honest and am probably over emphasizing these items. I have described the car to the best of my knowledge. This a 43 year old car that is overall very nice condition and runs and looks great. It is not overall show quality perfect but is much more than a daily driver. It is loads of fun and reliable and I will miss the “Red Dragon”. If I was to keep the car I would adjust the panel gaps, the door opening, and the two lights and drive it the way it is. Additionally, I do have a completely rebuilt 427 that is screaming to go in the car. This would increase the value and fun level immensely. The 427 is available if interested. NADA lists this car Average Retail for $28,150 and High Retail for $35,075. I have handle automobile total loss insurance claims for a major insurance company using NADA for over 15 years. I would rate this car between average and high retail. Average retail is described as a “20-footer”. This car is a 5-footer. Considering the ‘bad’ items still rates this at or above Average retail. My reserve is over $8000 less than the Average Retail price. Purchase details: $250 non-refundable PayPal payment with 48 hours after the winning bid. No bids unless you have at least 10 positive feedbacks and a positive rating 95% or higher unless approved by me first or your bid will be deleted. Balance of payment can be discussed after purchase either in person or PayPal. No personal checks or money orders. If payment is in the form of a cashier’s check or bank check then I will need to have it deposited for the length of time necessary to ensure it clears and is not fraudulent. This may be several days to a couple of weeks. You may request additional information or specific photos. You may inspect the car in person. There is no warranty. The car is sold as is, where is. If I missed anything in the description then we can discuss to amicably rectify. I am an honest person and only want a happy buyer to own this piece of fun. If the reserve is not met then I have a local buyer to consider or will have it hauled to AZ when I move if necessary. The car will also be listed for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. The sale must be completed and the car picked up no later than the second week of August. If shipping I can only drive it onto the truck. All shipping and transportation arrangements are the buyer’s responsibility. ** Bid with confidence as 100% positive feedback. ** I am selling all of my 68-72 Chevelle and El Camino parts. New and used. Radios, seat belts, kick panels, interior parts, convertible trim parts, bumper brackets, window glass and components, grill parts and brackets, head lamp bezels, emergency brakes, weather stripping, hoods, arm rests, power steering pumps, upper radiator panels, bumper filler panels, chrome, etc. Everything will be sold or scrapped if not sold. Already sold 5 cars including 2 convertibles and many parts. Have a 72 coupe 350/350 that was just frame off restored and 80%’ completed with 95+% of the parts to complete the restoration with numerous new parts. Professionally rebuilt 427 engine with heads. Email for any questions. On Jul-03-13 at 19:47:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to add a 'bad' item: There is a pin hole leak in the gas tank which was not replaced during the restoration. It does not leak gas all over. I only found it by noticing the discoloration down the right side of the tank. Also, the gas gauge only registers up to 1/4 tank. When the fuel gets down past a 1/4 tank then it works accurately. The fuel sending unit is original and would probably need replacing. I can compensate by including a free set of chrome windshield pillar moldings which may not be perfect but are usable for another convertible and also a set of interior sun visor panels which have been blasted, primed, painted, and are perfect. Thank you and I apologize for missing this issue on the initial posting. On Jul-03-13 at 19:54:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I also have the one missing under hood insulation piece that is not shown in the picture. Bonus: I will also include a new set of cowl hood chrome plates that the posts go through for the safety clips to rest on.
