Vehicle Detail
Ford E-350 w/7.3 diesel engine and automatic overdrive transmission. It was a SWAT truck and filled with communications gear racks when I bought it at a police auction. I added the large drawered tool boxes - like car mechanics tool boxes - and built some aluminum cabinets. We used it as an HVAC/R service and installation truck and it was great for that. The exterior doors all have magnetic switches that turn on a gang of bright interior lights so it's great to work out of at night - it's as bright as day inside. There are also bright exterior work lights built in too. You can set up the manual switches so the exterior work lights come on when you open the doors too. The interior is actually very cool - lots of aluminum diamond plate and lost of cabinet space. The exterior cabinets have door switches and lights too. There is an aluminum ladder rack - with rollers to spare the paint. And there is also an aluminum frame hitch too but I only used it once to move a utility trailer for my neighbor. There doesn't seem to be any trailer light wiring. Oh; the tail light assemblies are new too. The old ones had a cracked lens and one had an intermittent bad ground. So we just replaced them both to be on the safe side of easier. All the emergency vehicle lights still work but I painted the side lenses over black. I was going to do them all but I never got around to it. The hard wired police spotlight is in the cab too. Good: the brakes and tires are brand new. At least two are top-shelf Michelins. The tires and brakes don't have 1000 miles on them. New transmission and torque converter about 2000 miles ago. I had them replace the rear main seal too. Both batteries are also new - last fall I think. The 7.3 always starts and runs like a watch. I have another one with over 400K on it - might be 450K by now - and it doesn't even smoke. Even the baby of the fleet has 260K miles on it. The 7.3's all apparently run forever. Bad: the driver's door power window doesn't work - it needs a rocker switch, or two of the wires re-attached to the old switch. We fixed it one time but the wires came off again when the door panel was off to change the mirrors. Oh; the rearview mirrors are new too. It has a touch-screen CD player with a flip-front which also removes - but it stopped working again recently. The last time the electronics place replaced a fuse and then it was fine for over a year. There are normal scratches and so forth - but it's easy to match to touch up - as there is only one black. I was going to have the Investigation * Support Unit lettering taken off the sides but everybody everywhere got such a kick out of it that I ended up leaving it. It's been a cool truck: you never get stopped for speeding, you can park anywhere, and we got waved through roadblocks several times. Oh; I just remembered - the whole exhaust system was replaced last year too. That 288,000 miles number I listed may not be exactly right. I don't have the truck here so I'm just going by memory, but I think it's pretty close to that. If it's critical for you to know down to the last mile I'll run over to the shop and find out for you. Any questions just ask. On Apr-12-13 at 07:10:48 PDT, seller added the following information: My son reminded me this morning - when we bought this truck the head mechanic for the municipal fleet garage told me that the engine was replaced when the truck had about 175,000 miles on it. One of their mechanics drained the oil and then went to lunch. When he came back he drove the truck out to get something - but he never made it. So after they towed the truck back the engine was replaced (or maybe rebuilt - I forget now which he said they had done) after that. So this engine I was so proud of for running great all this time is really no big deal - it's only got 125,000 or so miles on it. He said the mechanic got fired over that deal. On Apr-15-13 at 13:03:37 PDT, seller added the following information: For some reason people here keep asking me if this truck "will make it somewhere" distant. The answer is: Yes. It is a regular truck, has no problems, and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Well; anywhere in the US anyway. On Apr-15-13 at 15:11:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Whew! You all are an inquisitive lot! So here is some more info for you - 1. 8' 9" to the top of the aluminum ladder rack. Yes; there are rollers to roll the ladder on and off with. The extended one to the rear is so that the ladder cannot damage the lights or the body if your helper works sloppy. 2. The inside floor space is 9' 9" long front-to-back. But including that center section toy can see in the pics the floor space is 11' 4" front-to-back. 3. Rear doors are 4' 5" wide. 4. The side door is 32" wide. 5. The exterior cabinet door on the passenger side is 18" wide. 6. The exterior cabinet door on the drivers side is 21" wide. I will add you all the requested additional pics too.
