Vehicle Detail

I am selling this car for my elderly father-in-law, who is the second owner. The car is in the desert community of Victorville, CA about half way between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. He last drove it six or seven years ago - it has been sitting in his garage ever since. The Frank Sinatra edition Imperial is actually quite rare as very few were made. The following is from Allpar.com: “To try to stimulate sales we even did a ‘Blue Eyes’ special model that was the color of Frank Sinatra's eyes [Glaciar Blue paint]. The buyer also got a console full of Frank Sinatra cassettes with the car. (Frank and Lee were buddies then and called each other ‘Chairman.’)” The Frank Sinatra edition was made in 1981 and 1982, costing a stunning $2,000 more. The “FS” Imperials also included platinum-color carpet, sky-blue leather or velour, emblems, a console that held 10 cassettes, and a leather cassette carrying case. 278 of the special-order cars were made, a decent number considering the added cost of the car and the ready availability of Frank Sinatra cassettes. To those who recognize this listing from around Thanksgiving time, the auction was sniped at the last second by some guy in Brazil who wrote me that he couldn't think about getting it shipped for at least six months - even though the ad said "Sell to USA only" and implied it needed to go ASAP. So, on principle I had the transaction cancelled. In that listing I described it as a non-running car because it had been sitting for so long and I didn't want to deal with it since I live 120 miles away. I learned from bidders in that last listing that a non-running car presents some transport issues (costs more or some transporters won't do it). Over the holidays and in February we got out to Victorville and I spent a couple of days getting the car going. I'm a car guy (well, muscle cars) and know what I am doing so I didn't screw anything up getting it started. With new oil, gas, coolant, various lines, and a battery it started right up and ran fine. I just took it around the block to make sure no strange suspension or engine noises. It's not registered so I didn't want to risk getting caught because here in CA every ticket costs a fortune. Exterior condition is great as far as rust because there is none. The paint is faded, especially on the hood and roof as can be seen in the pictures. The passenger mirror needs replacement. I remember noticing a crack in the windshield somewhere but it's not real obvious in the pictures. The interior is missing a door handle, but aside from needing a good cleaning, looks in great shape. I checked the radio, air, heat, headlights, dash lights, etc and everything worked fine. So to sum it up, this was and is a running car but it has been sitting for a long time. The tires were basically new when it was parked in the garage but not sure how time affects that. Without a thorough checkup of fuel rubber, coolant rubber, tires, I personally would not drive this car home since leaving Victorville means you have an hour or so of desert in every direction. The cassettes, case, umbrella that came with the FS edition are no longer with the car. They weren't there when my father-in-law got it. Sell to USA only.
