Vehicle Detail
* I am not parting out the cars. Please don't ask for parts, I will not respond. You are bidding on a 1973 BMW CS E9 (shown as is) and its intended parts car (1971 BMW 2800 CS). I purchased the 1973 BMW 3.0CS in 2007 with the intent to restore it to it’s hey day. I fell in love with the particular E9 model, often arguably referred to as BMW’s most beautiful car ever built, and it had been my dream to own one. If you are a true fan or been lucky to see one of these beauties drive by, then I don’t need to sell you on specs. They are a head turner whether Concours or concrete. I have been working on and off the restore over the past few years. Soon after buying the listed 1973 BMW CS, I am also bought the included 1971 BMW 2800 CS (parts car only) which will be included in this sale. With different interests, I’m choosing to move on from this project. Unfortunately, as the cliche goes, my loss will be your gain. I will be offering both cars together and priced to sell. Both cars will be sold as is. I bought the 1973 3.0 CS coupe in 2007 from a family in Marin County, CA. I started the process of cutting out some of the rust areas around the car. I have detailed the list of things needed to be addressed in the pictures provided. It would be a great project for someone with the drive to finish it. The car does run and has the original key and ignition. The car has Weber carburetors installed and will also include the original Zeniths. The overall body is straight and complete with trim, bumpers, wheels, lights etc. The gas tank was also treated about four years ago. The car has all windows and exterior trim in good condition. All fluids need to be flushed and changed. Odometer reads 12,347, but I doubt it’s actual miles. I purchased the 1971 BMW 2800 CS in 2010 with the intent of using the interior and engine bits as a parts car. The car will be included in the sale as is and is a salvage title. The car does not have a roof and was totaled in an accident. The car had been completely restored by the previous owner before the accident. The previous owner was a very reputable auto restorer in Marin County and had spared no expense on the restore before it was wrecked. This car included the the 5-speed conversion and transmission. The leather, interior, wood, dash, Nardi steering wheel, and carpets are in pristine condition. There are also 16" Alpina's on the car (2 need to be repaired as a result of the wreck). Floorboards, rocker panels, doors, mirrors, engine bits, even down to the screws are also in pristine condition. The previous owner had also completed a lot of resto work including engine, mechanical, electrical details, as well as mentioned transmission. The car does not have a roof (cut and sold) but has been garaged. The value and condition of the carpets, interior and mechanical bits are the key points for inclusion. The car will be included as is and is not driveable. The odometer reads 26,999. Here are the issues with the 1973 BMW 3.0 CS: - The rocker panels and overall restoration are more than want I wanted to get into. The rocker panels on the 1971 parts car are in excellent condition and can be cut and fitted onto the 1973. - The rear of the car shows signs of a bondo repair at some point in time. - The spare tire well has rusted (not completely through in some points). It can be cut and welded from 1971 parts car. - Both front driver and passenger floorboards are rusted but all metal repairs can be cut from 1971 BMW 2800 parts car which floors and rocker panels are in excellent condition. - Rust bubbles in both front fenders, doors and rocker panels. Rust bubbles on the roof near automatic sunroof. - The reverse in the automatic transmission is not functioning. The 1971 BMW 2800 has the 5 speed transmission and conversion that can be used - The interior of the 1973 was sold privately. The sale includes the excellent interior of the 1971 BMW 2800 parts car (as shown). I will do my best to respond to questions and details. Including both cars on auction would make it easier on any future buyer to restore or part out. 99% of all parts needed for a complete restoration are between the two cars mentioned. Good luck and happy bidding!
