Owning a classic Dodge muscle car that's rare, quick, correct and topless! As your number one source for all things Mopar, RK Motors Charlotte takes pride in selling Auburn Hills' coolest and most interesting creations. And this awesome 1968 Dart GTS convertible, with its stout 340 cubic inch V8, road ready 4-speed drivetrain and factory accurate color combination, is one of the most fun and unique Mopars on the planet! If you're in the market for a super clean street bruiser that you can show, build on and enjoy for years; how about an old school drop-top that combines an invigorating driving experience with a top-notch restoration and unmatched exclusivity? One look at this rare Dodge's VIN verifies the car is indeed one of only forty-four GTS convertibles built for the 1968 model year. And one look at the car's fender tag illustrates the precision of its recent restoration. Take a good look at our high resolution pictures and you'll see one slick drop-top that's obviously logged very few miles since its thorough shakedown was completed. The car's sculpted Mopar body has been massaged and finessed until its panels were as straight as anything that sits on a modern showroom floor; and since they knew it would be getting A LOT of serious scrutiny at shows, the guys in the body shop went the extra mile to make sure everything lined up correctly. On the outside of those panels, two-stage urethane accurately reproduces Chrysler's code T Medium Green Metallic finish; and on the outside of that urethane, a correct white bumble bee stripe perfectly frames the car's razor-sharp quarter panels. If you crave conversation and want to be the center of attention at every car show you attend, this spectacular cruiser is your next ride! Widely regarded as one of the most successful compact platforms to ever roll out of Detroit, the Dart offered buyers the same excellent combination of performance and style in the 60s as it does today. At the front of the car, a body-width stainless grille centers two large parking lights between two larger headlights, a pristine chrome bumper and a red-trimmed "GTS" emblem. Above that grille, the car's defined hood props Dodge's familiar chrome-trimmed power bulges in front of like-new glass that's cleared by satin finished wipers, framed by well-maintained stainless trim and capped by a correct white top. Below that glass, multi-faceted body panels, which add an unmistakable vintage flavor to the design, are detailed with correct stainless wheel lip moldings and new-for-1968 marker lights. Between those marker lights, bold "GTS" fender emblems combine with correct fender mounted turn signal indicators to perfectly complement traditional chrome door handles and a stylish driver's mirror. And at the back of the car, a black and silver valence hangs a centered "Dodge" script between a fourth, red-trimmed "GTS" emblem, elaborate tail lights, a second pristine chrome bumper and traditional stainless exhaust tips. If you build a classic drop-top that draws this much attention, you'd better be able to back up its good looks with some serious firepower! Accordingly, this buff compacts restorer's dipped into the Mopar parts bin and served up a date-correct 340 cubic inch V8 that wears a 2780930 casting number and thumps to the motto: bigger is always better! At the top of that legendary Chrysler mill, a large 4-barrel carburetor is sandwiched between a correctly branded organisol air cleaner, a cast iron factory intake and a pair of traditional, stamped steel valve covers. Behind those valve covers, a familiar points distributor sends fire through a fresh set of Chrysler Corporation Electronic Suppression plug wires. And beneath those valve covers, cast iron heads dump incinerated dinosaurs into a free-flowing true dual exhaust system via restored cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling for the big engine is provided by a heavy duty 26 inch Chrysler radiator that's cinched to reproduction Chrysler hoses via correct squeeze clamps. A nice splash of color comes courtesy of a thick coat of high temp Hemi Orange block paint. And the car's Medium Green Metallic engine bay is highly detailed and exceptionally impressive from its rebuilt wiper motor and reproduction Mopar yellow cap battery all the way to its duplicated chalk marks and reproduction Chrysler washer tank. In 1968, if you were a true car guy, the only transmission you wanted in your Dart was a factory-issued A833 4-speed; and the 23 spline unit in this cool drop top can turn even the most mundane errands into a clutch slammin', gear grindin' good time! Naturally that high performance engine and transmission combination feeds a fully rebuilt front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension that's shackled to a correct power steering system and a rebuilt rear end. Cool and confident stops are provided by correct power drum brakes at all four corners. Exhaust flows down the center of the car through true dual pipes that run to factory replacement mufflers and traditional stainless tips. And fresh shocks at all four corners, new lines and hoses throughout, and a clean gas tank out back ensure the car has reliability that matches its top-down appeal. Above all that impressive hardware, solid floors have been properly undercoated instead of polished in a nice shade of body-matched basecoat like so many over-restored Mopars that roll through our showroom. And at the corners of that impressive hardware, factory steel wheel spin F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports around simulated mag wheel covers. This Dodge's fender tag says it was originally equipped with a black and white interior; and accordingly, the car's cockpit was correctly restored all the way down to its bright white door frames. The front bucket and rear bench seats are firm to the touch, and feature correct white covers that show no signs of tear or separation. At the bottom of those seats, fade-free black carpet is protected by stylish "Dart" branded floor mats; and between those seats, a factory correct console frames a double-bent Hurst shifter in bright chrome trim. The car's pristine padded dash hangs an old school horizontal speedometer beside a correct Dodge Solid State AM radio. In front of the driver, a restored steering wheel spins stylish satin spokes around chrome trimmed foot pedals. At the sides of the seats, fresh door panels hang new chrome hardware between straight stainless trim, unique "GTS" emblems and stain-free armrests. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk props a brand new mat below a restored bumper jack and reproduction deck lid decals. Just looking at the quality of this Dart's workmanship, you know its build probably cost twice our asking price. Careful construction and attention to detail ensure the car is a top notch cruiser that'll rumble along for years to come. And its restoration is so well done that more than one so-called 'Mopar expert' will likely be fooled into thinking it's a numbers matching time capsule. In the meantime, it's also fast, comfortable, and stylish, which are all attributes shared by the very best hobby cars. If you're looking for an outstanding example of a super rare muscle car that was built to be driven, you've found it!
