Vehicle Detail
1972 Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser 1972 Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser. Hard top, correct (not original) engine, 3 speed manual, new clutch. Engine runs well. This vehicle would be a great candidate for restoration. Although there are a number of minor issues (see below), the body has very little rust, and overall this Land Cruiser is mechanically sound. It hasn’t been chopped up or modified. In order for this vehicle to be truly roadworthy, it will need new tires and some brake work . It goes and stops (kind of), but the brakes are not great and will need to be worked on. In addition to the brakes and tires, the rear door handle mechanism is broken and needs to be replaced, the windshield wipers don’t work, heater is not working, the window on the driver’s side doesn’t roll up or down, and there are some dents on the hood and another on the back corner of the driver’s side. Right front tire has a slow leak that I’m pretty sure is related to the wheel. As you can see from the photos, the jump seats are in great shape, but the driver’s seat needs to be recovered. Dash lights don’t work, but the other lights do. The skid plate needs to be re-installed. The safety belts are ancient and should probably be replaced. This car sat up under my carport for a number of years and I have finally had the clutch replaced and the engine tuned up to the point where it runs pretty darn well. This is a used, replacement engine and not the original. I honestly have no idea how many miles are on the engine. The odometer reads 98,637.8. You have to wiggle the key a little and pull the choke out to get the car started, then let it run at a higher idle speed and warm up for a few minutes before you put the choke in. Once the engine warms up, it’ll go. I have included photos of the worst of the rust damage. An addition rust spot by the driver's seat is not pictured. There is some more rust at the back tailgate area where the rear doors close, and at some of the points where the hardtop screws down. The paint job is (obviously) not the original. The previous owner painted this Cruiser forest green, but the original paint color was beige. Also included are the original owner’s manual and a Haynes manual. Method of payment $500 deposit via paypal within 48 hours of auction , balance paid by cash on pick up or Check/money order will need to clear before transaction is complete. The vehicle is in Tallahassee FL and is available for pick up here. If the vehicle is shipped this will be done at the buyers expense and all arrangements are to be made by the buyer. This is a really neat vehicle just waiting for someone with the time, interest, and money to restore her to her former glory. With a little effort you could have a heck of a great Land Cruiser. Happy Bidding!
