Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a 1973 240Z project car from Nissan Sport magazine. It is exactly as stated, a project car, but with a lot of upgrades. This project has been ongoing since 2005 and all the work done to it has been documented starting with Sport Z Magazine and continuing with Nissan Sport Magazine. All the issues that featured this car comes with it. At this time it is my daily driver. It can be driven across the country tomorrow without any reservations. I did not drive it much for the first four years of its project life. Since then, I have averaged about 15,000 miles a year traveling to car shows around the country. Mechanically, there are no major issues and this car has seen some track time and can hold it’s own. But cosmetically, there is still work to be done. Listed below are the pros and cons of the car. I will list all of them in detail to make sure you know exactly what you are getting. You will also be getting a stereo, matching spare rim and manuals with the car (see pics). The car has been wrapped and you can decide if you want to keep it that way or remove it. PROS: Engine: 280Z motor. A major tune-up was done but it was not rebuilt. Still runs strong and doesn’t smoke. Carbs: Early 4-screw SU’s. The throttle bodies are from ZTherapy and these carbs work great. I never have to use the choke to start this car no matter how cold it is. CAI: Has a cold air intake from Unique Z Products with a K&N cone air filter with dust cover. Alternator: 280ZX 60 amp internally regulated using the ZXP adaptor plug from Datsun 240Z Upgrades. Radiator: 3-row. This Z never runs hot even in 100+ degree weather. Distributor: Upgraded 280ZX E12-80 electronic dizzy. Exhaust: Header with 2-1/4” pipe to the muffler. Car has a nice sound to it. Drivetrain: 5-speed tranny from a 1983 280ZX, ACT clutch and a R200 3.70 differential. Brakes: Front and rear disc brakes. Emergency brake is functional. Suspension: Eibach lowering springs with KYB struts. New ball joints, rear spindle pins and Energy Suspension poly bushings. The front lower control arms are also adjustable. MSA bump steer spacers. Front and Rear MSA Strut bars. Wheels/Tires: Konig 15” Rewinds with a matching spare rim and almost new Kumho tires. Headlights: Upgrade H4 lights using the headlight upgrade harness from Datsun 240Z Upgrades. Gaskets/Seals: Most seals and gaskets have been replaced except for the rear hatch glass. Interior: Seats are in great shape with no tears (were recovered using cloth) except for a small rip low down on the rear side of the drivers seat. Door panels have been recovered and are in great shape with no rips or tears. Front and rear carpet is in good shape. All glass is in good shape with no cracks. All gauges work except for clock. Center console is in great shape with no cracks. Z has a choke lever bracket attached so lever is separate from the console (attached to the tunnel) but still in its original spot. Ignition, door locks and hatch lock all use the same key. Exterior: headlights, turn signals, side markers and rear tail lights are all in good working order. Bumpers are not perfect but in great shape for their age. The car has been wrapped in vinyl and has only minor flaws from car door dings and such. The wrap can be removed and a little more bodywork could be done to get her ready for paint. Not sure you would want to keep all the graphics on it. Most people think it is painted white with graphics slapped on, but the whole car is a wrap with the graphics built-in. The website addresses on the doors and lower front valance are separate from the wrap and can be removed. CONS: There is a tear in the headliner but it is minor to me. The blower fan for the heater does not turn on. It used to before I removed the dash. I must have missed a wire when reconnecting the harness (never got around to fixing it). Speedo is off a few miles per hour due to bigger rims and tires and bounces once in a while. Does not have a stereo installed but it will come with a JVC removable faceplate system. The floor pans are not great and have been patched in a couple of place but overall are good enough as is. If you plan on keeping the car for ever you might want to think about replacing the floor pans but it is not something that needs to be done right now. If you plan to remove the wrap and paint it, you will probably want to replace both doglegs. They look fine with the wrap but might not look as good with paint. They had rust issues and I repaired them without replacing the sheet metal. The doors can be touchy at times and not want to close as securely as I would like. It’s easier to close the door (driver side) from inside the car then from outside. The passenger side works more smoothly. I’m working to try and correct that and if I can’t, I will probably throw in a set of replacement doors with better interior latches. I have had the doors close properly before so it could just be an adjustment issue. The wipers work but the turn off switch is a little screwy, not a major problem, just odd. There is no window washer bottle. Some of the clear coat has peeled from a couple of the rims, but they still clean up nice. Shipping options: You will have a few options on delivery of the car once paid for. The first is for you to setup transport to have it delivered to your location. The second choice is for you to come in person and drive it home. The third option is I can personally drive the car to your location as long as you pay for the gas (and 1 nights stay in a motel – if you are more then 800 miles away) to get it to you and a one-way plane ticket back home (and of coarse, a ride to the airport). Payment: I have tried to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible. Because the car is 40 years old it does not come with a warranty and is being sold as is. Remember, even though it might look like it and people will want to stop and talk with you about it, it is not in show car condition and still needs a little more TLC. I have set the reserve at what I consider a fair price. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to get you the correct answers. I will need a $300 non-refundable deposit (to know that you are serious) within 48 hours of auction end and balance COD when car is picked up or delivered. On Mar-08-13 at 00:42:53 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: The car has a clear title, the front brakes have steel braided brake lines, all wheel bearings have been replaced, the tranny and diff are filled with Royal Purple. the horn is not hooked up since I replaced the steering wheel. There are the usual cracks in the dash. As I think of things I will add more updates.
