With its original LS5/4-speed powertrain, stunning Mulsanne Blue paint, and factory A/C, its exactly the kind of collectable we all long to own: one that will appreciate as we enjoy it. Just when you think all the remarkable Corvettes have been found and stashed away by collectors, cars like this show up. The restoration work is great and if you know Corvettes, you know that numbers-matching pieces have a special place in collectors hearts. The paint is quite nice and might even pass for original if you didnt know better. The fiberglass bodywork remains exceptionally nice with no signs of stress. Because theres an LS5 big block underneath, this one got the big block hood at the factory, as well as the ducktail spoiler out back that gives the roadster a high-performance look. Add in the beloved chrome bumpers, egg crate grilles, and crisp, bright emblems, and, well, you have a car that will knock em out at the next Bloomington. You will be equally stunned by the interiors quality and lack of wear, including blue bucket seats that dont show so much as a popped thread. It certainly seems that someone loved and cherished this Vette from day one, and used a lot of extra care in its maintenance, and since the restoration its been impeccably preserved. The carpets fit well, the dash isnt cracked, and all the original gauges are fully functional. Factory A/C was available with the LS5, giving you the best of both worlds, and its nicely integrated into the dash with controls just ahead of the 4-speed shifter. 1970 Corvettes also included the cool fiber-optic lamp monitoring system in the center console, and this one also carries the optional AM/FM stereo radio as well as a tilt/telescope wheel. A black convertible top gives this Vette a serious look, and can be stowed easily once you perfect your technique. The real reason this Corvette is an A-list collectable is the matching-numbers LS5 under the hood. With 390 horsepower on tap, theres no question its fast which is what owning a vintage Corvette is all about. Its detailed properly with chrome valve covers atop a Chevy Orange block, and the little stuff that Corvette guys look for is in place. Check out the armored spark plug wires, the tower hose clamps, and the reproduction decals on the air cleaner lideverything adds up to a car that can be shown with confidence. The original 4-speed manual is in place, along with a new chambered exhaust system, and while the chassis is a little crusty, thats only additional proof that this car is rock-solid and authentic. Factory Rallys are in great condition and wear beefy 235/60/15 BFGoodrich radials. Not quite a screaming bargain, but if we had to bet on a car for future appreciation, this Corvette would be at the top of our list, and for that reason you just cant go wrong.
