Vehicle Detail
1983 Jeep Scrambler CJ-8 I bought this Scrambler to go exploring the Arizona outback. I was new to the hobby and found a good Jeep only club that did weekend trips, camping out, and sightseeing the great southwest desert. Over time I added more "extras" enhancing the Jeeps reliability and functionality for expedition travel. I have no qualms traveling hundreds of miles from home, along the Mexico-US border, to remote locations of Arizona, California, and Nevada. This is not a pristine vehicle, its beauty lies in it operability. I found the pickup style of the Scrambler was ideal for these longer trips. I have installed a tonneau cover over the bed to keep the contents dry and dust free. The addition of a rack between the roll bar tubes above the cover allows for bigger items such as ice chests or firewood; allows for easy access without having to undo the tonneau snaps. A 33-gallon Aero Tanks gas tank with custom skid platting was added to extend the driving range and avoids the need for extra Jerry cans of gas. A Howell TBI 4.2L emission legal kit 50 state emission legal (CARB EO#D452) replaced the smog pump and carburetor when I first registered the vehicle in state because it would not pass emissions with the stock setup. After installation of the TBI I have had trouble free emissions (it did fail the gas tank pressure test this past 2012 test, a simple replacement of the fuel filler hose and new gas cap corrected the failure; the TBI has never failed). Other upgrades: dual electrical fans cooling a heavy duty radiator, 4" Rancho lift, 33" BFG terrain tires, PS with upgraded AGR super box 2 gear box, PB with upgraded YJ master cylinder, Tuffy console and glove box secured storage, custom stereo amp with marine 6x9 speakers with Cobra remote mount CB, original tach modified with digital electronic circuitry to allow work with the TBI (more accurate and smoother), extra flood lights front and rear, half doors, bikini top, full steel doors, 1/4 cab top, Shrockworks sliders, 4:10 gearing. As with all projects like this, I have much more invested than I will get from the sale, so my loss will be your gain. Highlights include: · Only 5405 Scramblers built in 1983 · Highly desirable wide track axle (upgraded single rear axle shafts) · 258 straight six cylinder with Howell TBI fuel injection 50 states legal · T5 transmission & Dana 300 transfer case · Dana 30 & AMC 20 axles · Comes with half hard top, full steel doors, half doors, bikini top · Rock rails, Tonneau cover, storage rack · 33-gallon fuel tank, upgraded electric radiator fans with HD radiator · Spray in bed liner · Upgraded power steering and power brakes · Stereo radio / CD player / Cobra CB with 6x9" marine grade speakers, CB & 2-meter antennas· Many of the take off parts and extra items I have purchased go with the vehicle should you desire them (2" lift springs, side steps, alternator, new door hinges, extra rim, many other items) · Have all receipts and service records, including emissions tests and repairs. Issues that I am aware of: · Pin hole rust on several body panels · Front bumper dented · Patches in bed with Rhino bed sealer covering· Stereo currently not installed but goes with the vehicle · Fuel gauge works but not calibrated to fuel tank· Odometer readings are in excess of 200,000 miles, the state inspector did not report correctly upon my purchase and first registration on Arizona title that the reading was 191,000 not 91,000 so this looks like I tried to roll back the odometer. I have not.· There are no liens on the vehicle, I purchased it free and clear and have records to that record. · Hard doors have the normal cracks near the wind wings, door seals hard and need replaced Please understand that this is NOT an auction to look at my Jeep, it is an auction to purchase it.
