This luxurious model was the last of the hand-built Mercedes. Only 13 cars per week rolled off the production line. Unlike other automobiles, these cars were classics the day they rolled off the production line, and have remained so ever since. The W111 Coupe was first introduced in 1961 and was considered to be an immediate success. Road & Track magazine said "one of the best-looking body designs to come from any German concern." It is exquisitely proportioned and beautifully designed. Luxurious may very well be an understatement when describing this model!!!! About the car: Up for sale is Classic, rare and highly desirable 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe. Only 3,797 280SE Coupes were made in the period of 1968-1971, making it one of the rarest and least produced models in the W111 line-up! The mechanical fuel injection, disc brakes and other improvements, made it the most sophisticated car on the road. This Particular model is production number 3,144 out of 3,797 EVER made, making it one of the last 600 that rolled off the production line! Also it features VERY RARE automatic floor shifter transmission, as well as power windows and BEHR Air conditioning!!! Today, she is 44 years old, and even after all those years, she still have that beautiful and timeless charm, and with its grace and beauty she will be stopping the local traffic and turning heads for years to come!! For a human being, 44 years is a good amount of time, but to an automobile it's an eternity! The ravages of time aren't just from nature. Tastes change, trends die, and once-envied designs have a way of looking absurd. Once in a while though, an automobile endures despite all this, and ultimately, becomes a classic. This Mercedes is that vehicle, and it is perfect example of the timeless German luxury automobile! Its previous owner drove this beauty until 2003, when he parked it into storage due to his health issues. Among other paperwork, original books and manuals, it also comes with its original Production Data Card. When he acquired the car, he started restoration, both mechanically and cosmetically. Top end of the engine was rebuilt (please see pictures), but as the car hasn't been started or driven since 2003, it will more than likely need tune-up, fuel tank and fuel lines clean up and some TLC before it is started again. Engine does spin freely, and will run for few seconds on the starting fluid. We are selling it as a Non-Runner, but the car does roll, steer, and brakes without any problems. Previous owner started cosmetic restoration with the exterior of the car, and he had it painted in elegant Metallic Silver Paint. Original color of this beauty is White (paint code 050). He spared no expense for the re-paint, but as the car was stored since 2003, and it did spend some time being stored outside under a car cover, time took toll on its paint and body. From few feet away paint looks very nice and presentable, but upon closer inspection you can notice some rust bubbles and imperfections in it, especially on the trunk lid (please see pictures!). Now its Perfect time for the new owner do decide if they want to keep it Metallic silver, or return it to its elegant White color. From whichever angle you look at this car, you are always struck by its racy elegance and aesthetic balance of stylistic elements. Doors open and shut nicely and tightly, and the body is nice and straight. Chrome is all compete, and all glass is nice and clear. Undercarriage is original and unmolested, but there is some rust on the floorboards, usual suspects on these cars. Replacement floorboards are easy to find, and not very expensive to get. -Interior Interior is complete down to its original Kienzle Clock, but it is showing its aged patina, and it would need to be refreshed. Leather seats are showing their age, and would need to be reupholstered, but are still very comfortable and supportive. It also comes with rare Power Windows and BEHR Air Conditioning! This Mercedes is perfect candidate for restoration, as its all complete and it will only continue to appreciate in its value, as these cars are harder and harder to come by. Prices of 280SE W111 Convertibles are already skyrocketing, with fully restored models already in $80,000-$100,000 range, and Coupes are shortly going to follow!
