The Rarest car for sale this week is not at Barrett Jackson, it is this 1 of 1 1988 Saleen Mustang. Documented in the Saleen Book as one of 708 Saleen Mustangs produced in 1988, this was one of 546 Hatchbacks, so all Saleens are rare, but that is just the beginning of 88#15s rarity. 88#15 was one of only 40 Saleens produced that year with Cruise Control, and one of only 33 made that year with an Automatic transmission. It was in the Rare yet highly desirable Dark Blue Metallic Paint. It was the only Saleen built with a blue interior, ever. Truly a 1 of 1 documented Muscle Car, and surely will increase in value in the future. 88#15 was purchased new at Frontier Ford in Santa Clara CA by a disabled veteran, and was fitted with hand controls so he could drive it (they have since been removed). The car has always been in CA and shows absolutely no rust, no signs of ever being in any accidents, every panel is the original one installed by Ford. After the original owner passed it sat outside in the sun so by the time I purchased it, the clearcoat on the original paint was gone, as was the drivers seat, I assume because of the Handicapped original owner. I had the car repainted in the original Dark Metallic Blue color and replaced the Saleen Stripes with new. I sourced the original Blue upholstry Saleen and Ford used and had the front Flofit seats (installed by Saleen) re-done as new. The rest of the interior including the door panels, headliner, dash, and even carpet are all the original blue pieces, and in remarkably good condition. The car has 137925 miles, and to my knowledge has had no engine work needed or done, it starts and runs beautifully, no smoke, and passed the strict CA smog test with flying colors. The Automatic Trans has been rebuilt, and shifts nice and firm. Ive replaced the Radiator and the Alternator. The car has its rare American Racing 16x7 front and 16x8 rear Mesh wheels, and I had them professionally restored to as new. New tires. Car runs and drives like a Saleen should, sounds and handles beautifully. The few things I havent had time to try and fix are: The A/C is all intact, but I have not tried to charge it, the Speedo is inop, and the gas guage reads too high. THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION.
