1987 Indy 500 Dodge Ram 1500 Cargo Van This 1987 Dodge Ram 1500 Cargo Van was in-service at the 1987 Indianapolis 500 Race on May 24 1987. This Van was used in a Track Support capacity during the months before & after the race. Dodge was the Pace Car in 1987 pacing the race with a Lebaron Pace Car. Dodge was also the official vehicle and truck for the 1987 Indy 500. A fleet of Dodge trucks including Dodge Dakota's and Dodge Vans were provided to the track for use before, during and after the 500. This Van is completely ORIGINAL PAINT with ALL ORIGINAL INDY 500 GRAPHICS. Original mileage on this Van at the time of this auction is 134,000 miles. Since this Van is over 10 years old I am selling this van as "Mileage Exempt" for reporting purposes. This 1987 Indy 500 Dodge Van was sold after the 1987 Indy 500 Race at the Dodge Dealer Auction to a Dodge dealer in Louisville Kentucky. The original owner purchased this Van from that dealer. The original owner's son from whom I purchased this Van tells me he vividly remembers going with his Dad to purchase this Van. There were 3 Indy 500 Vans (2 Window Vans & this Cargo Van) and 3 Indy 500 Dodge Dakota Pickup's for sale at this dealer. His father purchased this Indy 500 Cargo Van. According to the son this Van was his "Baby" until his death in 1996 when ownership passed to his son. The son sparingly used this van over the last 16 years of ownership. Once again I purchased this Van from the original owners son! This 1987 Indy 500 Dodge Ram Van is LOADED with Options. Options include the 318 V8 Engine, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Factory Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Tilt Steering, Cruise Control, Delay Windshield Wipers, Rear Window Defogger, Factory AM-FM- Cassette Tape Radio, Tinted Glass, Passenger Side Sliding Door, Rear Single Cargo Door, Factory Rally Wheels, Chrome Exterior Side Mirrors, Indy 500 RED Paint, Factory RED Bucket Seat Interior & More! Mechanically this Van starts and runs good, The 318 engine is nice & quiet. The automatic transmission shifts properly and the brakes are excellent. The exhaust is original and still retains the original Catalytic Converter, muffler and tailpipe. The truck has been serviced with fresh oil & Lube. The alternator works properly but is a little noisy. All the lights & turn signals function properly. All the gauges work properly. The radio works properly, The tilt steering column is nice and tight. The power windows do not work. The power door locks do work. The tires are in good condition with the front tires recently replaced by the original owners son. The jack and tools are complete. I do not have the original spare tire at this time. This Van could use a new set of shock absorbers as they feel to me to be worn out. The original rally wheels are in good condition. The trim rings are decent for original. One rally wheel center cap is missing. This may be replaced by the time of the end of this auction if I find one at the swap meet this next weekend! Look at the picture or the original Body Buck Tag and Option Sticker from under the hood. The exterior of this Van is completely ORIGINAL PAINT with all ORIGINAL INDY 500 GRAPHICS! The paint is in excellent condition for original paint along with the original graphics. I think this Van looks better in person than it does in the pictures. The van has never been wrecked. There are very few dings in the Van. Overall it is VERY Straight! The only spot on the Van is above the front windshield where a branch fell on the Van cracking the original windshield which was replaced. The doors open and close properly, The driver's door hinges could use new bushings. The original weatherstrip on the van is in excellent condition nice and soft. The underside of this Van is fantastic with NO Rust for corrosion. Just look at the detailed pictures. Amazing for a Dodge Van much less one as rare this van! The interior of the Van is COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. The dash is in nice condition with all gauges working properly. The dash pad is not cracked. The The original seats are EXCELLENT! The original Door Panels are very nice. The headliner is original and in decent condition. The interior lights work properly. The carpet in the Van is original according to the original owner's son. He tells me this carpet was in the van at the time of their purchase. The carpet is molded around the front footwell areas so I could believe this to be true. A rear seat has been added in the rear of the van by the original owner. The rest of the rear cargo area is excellent including the original Stereo speakers. This is the PERFECT VAN for a Mopar Collector to tow their Mopar show car is go to swap meets. I would say it's a good chance this has to van the only remaining 1987 Indy 500 Van in original condition in the hobby. I have never seen one before have you? I have spoken with the Indy 500 Museum Photographic Archive Department and they do have pictures of these Vans at the 1987 Indy 500 Race!
