Vehicle Detail
Recently bought this because I was curious how much I would like the 4.2 engine. I have owned many Audi's but never this powertrain. All I can say is "wow". Tons of torque and the race bred 300 horse, 40 valve V8 engine loves to rev. Not for the faint of heart. So much power tranny doesn't have to downshift on hills and loafs along when driving at speed. However, if you want to pass someone it happens so fast you wonder what happened. So impressive I went and bought the next generation with the exact same set up. Big money car. You get the chance to buy this at no reserve and have a lot of car for a fraction of the over $50,000 this car stickered for new. I bought it from an Audi enthusiast who obviously took good care of it. He ran synthetic oil, changed the belt and water pump at 100k, put lightweight BBS custom wheels on it and put most of the miles on the car. I put it through the shop with my favorite mechanic who knows I like things to be right. So we did the following in the past month and 1,000 miles: New brakes and rotors $800 New Yokohama snow tires $500 New wipers New Mobil One synthetic oil and new filter Deleted the mufflers to liberate the engine and give it more personality. After all "a sled with no sound has no soul". The car sounds fierce under hard acceleration and gets better MPG's (mid 20's if you drive gently). Original mufflers are in fine shape and included if you want to reinstall. The sound is a bit aggressive and a quieter approach would be to run the mufflers and delete the resonator. The entire system is stainless and in great shape. Passed stringent NH inspection fine including emissions test. Cats and resonator are in place, just the mufflers were deleted. Wheels are 17" lightweight BBS which cost almost $2,000. No curb rash or brake dust stains. A summer set of tires with 30% wear left are included. With the aggressive tread snow tires the ride is surprisingly good with incredible traction when needed. With the all wheel drive quattro this car is unstoppable in the snow. Loaded with features and everything works: power windows with one touch up and down, power locks, keyless entry with central locking incl trunk and fuel door, cruise control, heated drivers seat, home link garage opener, power mirrors, ABS, power tilt and telescope steering wheel, AM/FM/CD Bose surround sound stereo with steering wheel controls and factory sub in trunk which sounds awesome, reading lights, entry lights, moonroof with slide and tilt, wipers with intermittent feature, xenon headlights, driving lights, power front seats with lumbar and memory settings, lighters and/or power ports, his and hers dual temp controls, lighted mirrors, rear window defrost. Airbags in the front, sides and roof. Rear seats fold down for extra trunk space and there is a ski portal between the seats. Interior is black and beautiful. Mint for the year ie controls are not faded, dash is perfect, everything looks good. Leather seats show some checking but no rips or tears. Seats are very comfortable with no sagging. Lumbar and all power controls work together to create a perfect driving position. Entire car was recently detailed and seats were treated with conditioner to keep them supple. Glass and outside mirrors are great. Inside rearview seems stuck on night mode so it is darker but works fine. Transmission shifts like it should and with Audi's "Tiptronic" feature you can either let the trans shift automatically or snick up or down on your own. I talked with my friend who owns a transmission shop and he recommends leaving Audi's lifetime fluid alone and not changing it. He has an Audi with auto trans himself with over 250,000 miles and going strong. No car of this vintage is perfect. While it is very presentable and the paint shines beautifully you could do a couple things to take it to the next level: pictures show rear bumper has some flaking, there is a very small dent left rear fender and some rock chips on the right rear. Audi bodies are dipped in galvanization so rust is pretty much unheard of. I hate parking lot dings and this car is free of anything obvious. The gauges are all crystal clear. However, after driving about half an hour the info center that shows outside temp, MPG's, etc starts to fade and eventually goes blank. This is a common problem for this year. There are services that will rebuild that for $150. Odometers and date/time are fine all the time. No smoke, oil consumption, leaks, squeeks, funny smells or warning lights. Would drive anywhere. I have put about 1,000 trouble free miles on her and would expect nothing but more of the same. Clean and clear title in hand for an easy transaction. Fly in and drive home. And remember, no deal is ever final till you see it and love it. Otherwise we unwind the transaction with no hard feelings. Happy bidding and please, no zero feedback bidders.
