Vehicle Detail

_____________________________________________ .............. 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D - Diesel 4-Door Sedan .............. .......... VIN # WDBAB23A7DB404825 ......... ....... Manufactured by: Damiler-Benz AG, Stuttgart, Germany - April 1983 ....... .... Odometer is working - reads 156,344 actual miles (only 5,390 miles / year average) .... ....... Exterior color: "Dark Blue" - Mercedes Color Code - DB-904 ....... ....... Interior color: "Dark Blue" - MB-Tex (MB-Tex color code 1-74) ....... _____________________________________________ If in vehicles, value for your money matters to you, a Mercedes-Benz 240D diesel sedan is a fine choice. The 240D was the workhorse of the fleet. Always known for its durability and longevity - The Guinness World Record for the most miles on any car is Greek taxi driver Gregorios Sachinidis, for putting more than 2.8 million miles on his Mercedes 240D . Does anything else even come close? This 240D is being sold to settle an estate. Purchased on special order by its single owner it has had a pampered life ... heated garages and recommended Mercedes-Benz dealer service. A scheduled service was never missed as this vehicle was Lillian’s pride and joy. A great deal of time was spent even deciding to purchase it in the first place and then hours of contemplation just the right colors and options. She special ordered it through "Benson Motors" (now Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis) ... and waited. Waited for it to be built, just for her ... waited for the call from the dealer that her car had arrived and was ready to pick up. The paint on this vehicle is 100% original and one can well tell from the deep luster it still retains that this was a cherished member of the family. The car spent its entire life in Maryland and has a free and clear Maryland title. Blessed with a rather mild climate, the Maryland seasons are gentle on cars. There is NO RUST on this vehicle whatsoever as these many photos will attest to. As this is an estate car, the original Maryland license plates were turned in to the MVA as required by law ... I mounted this tag purely for display in these photos. "OUI MOI" - ‘Yes Me’ in French. Think this might mean you? From any angle the classic lines of the Mercedes-Benz are timeless. Notice the red pin stripes on this side of the car ... the other side green. Lillian had a sense of humor, and a yacht club membership ... ‘Port & Starboard’ stripes on this Navy Blue classic. I like it ... hope you do as well. If not, choose your own color and have them easily changed. I’ve provided many photos for your inspection - 72 total. There is absolutely nothing to hide here and I want you to comfortable with your purchase. It isn’t quite ‘kicking tires’, but it’s as close as possible considering the virtual medium. This is as fine an example of a 240D that one could ever expect to find. It’s my hope that Mercedes aficionados will recognize this and bid accordingly. The Mercedes-Benz star is know throughout the world as a symbol of quality, luxury and durability. Money well spent ... built to last a lifetime. This 240D recently met the requirements for the Mercedes ‘High Mileage Awards’ grill badge. It takes 250,000 kilometers (155,324 miles) to join this rather exclusive club ... ... this 240D just clocked 156,344 miles (251,610 kilometers) - with many, many more miles to go. Perhaps you’ll receive the next level awards badge at 5000,000 km. The interior is just as nice as the exterior ... showing very little wear and tear for its age and mileage ... just one of the hundred signs that this was an extremely well cared for vehicle. A few cracks in the dash are one of the only indications of age on this car. For some reason, blue dashboards were more susceptible to this than black ones. Think of it as patina ... that, or have a molded dash skin installed for a 100% new look. The steering wheel has no cracks or blemishes. All instruments work to factory specifications including the clock. Mileage - 156,344 actual ... just 5,390 miles per year on average for 29 years of dependable service. Exotic ‘Zebrano wood’ accents trim the cabin ... all in very nice condition. The 4-speed automatic transmission shifts flawlessly and smoothly. The glove compartment works as it should and locks for valet parking. The automatic climate control works perfectly ... set and forget. The A/C is ICE COLD having been completely converted from R12 to R134a (new everything - compressor, etc.) by the Annapolis, MD Mercedes dealership at a cost of $1,800 or so. There is a receipt for this in the hundred pages or so of service records ... every single record from day one. This is a NON SMOKING car and the ash tray has never been used. The radio is the original ‘Becker Europa’ AM/FM/Casette and works perfectly including the power antenna. The headliner is clean and free and clear of any blemishes. The sun visors each have vanity mirrors and lights ... all in good working order. Another view of the dashboard. The carpets are original and clean throughout These heavy "Lloyds - Rubbertite’ mats will help keep them that way. All the seating is in excellent condition as shown. There is a very small flake in the MB-Tex on the driver’s seat too small to show in these photos. The info. tags on the driver’s side B-post are shown in later photos. The center arm rest has two positions when down and folds up and out of the way when not in use. The passenger's seat if in excellent condition as shown. The net map pockets are quite handy on extended trips. The headrests are fully adjustable. No flaws whatsoever on the rear seats. Seat belts for three passengers and a folding arm rest. Original First-Aid kit and rear stereo speakers. The build tag on the B-post showing the VIN number WDBAB23A7DB404825 and the build date of April 1983. Non Catalyst as it’s a diesel motor. 2.4 liter - 4-cylinder diesel engine ... clean, dependable and well serviced throughout its life. Another view of the engine and the near new battery. The info. tag on the front cross brace show paint and option codes . You can look these codes up on the net by simply searching for ‘Mercedes Option Codes’. Another view of the engine ... ... and, still another. Mercedes-Benz dealer serviced since day one. The hood has two positions ... regular and all the way up for service. Mechanics love this feature. The hood pad is like new condition showing no signs of oil spray or the like. This is a tight and clean engine. Info tags on the driver’s door. The door panels are all in excellent condition. There is no rust on the lower edges whatsoever as is often found these W123 chassis cars. The four vacuum door locks all work perfectly. The trunk is super clean and shown almost no use whatsoever. The spare is the original ‘optional’ Michelin tire with alloy rim ... it looks to be unused. Even the original info placket is there along with the jack. 4 new ‘Michelin / Harmony’ tires all around. Size: P185/75-R14 ... 98% tread remaining. The finish on the alloy rims is original and showing signs of age. They would benefit from a repaint. All four jack points are in excellent condition. These are often a problem on these W123 chassis Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The holes pick up dirt ... then moisture ... then rust out ... not the case here. The next group of exterior photos are a bit repetitive but do well to show the body in a different light. Two views showing Lillian’s ‘Port & Starboard’ pin stripes. Some detail photos ... there is absolutely nothing to hide here. This sale includes a complete set of Mercedes-Benz factory literature in the original pouch. Manuals, maintenance books, warrantee book, info cards, etc. Service book is up to date and shows all regular factory recommended service since day one. All performed by Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis - formally ‘Benson Motors" ... the authorized dealer. The original ‘build sheet’ showing option codes, etc. Mercedes help line ... Free towing to a Mercedes garage and roadside fuel for the life of the vehicle. Included in this sale is the original Mercedes-Benz factory tool roll with a complete set of Mercedes tools. I’ve never come across such complete records on any Mercedes-Benz I’ve owned over the years. It takes a dedicated owner to keep such complete records ... certainly a good thing. There might be 100 or so sheets of service records ... all from day one and well cared for. To end this eBay listing ... a few parting glamour shots of the car. Vehicles as well care for as this one are hard to come by, please give it the consideration it well deserves. ______________________________________________________ Full disclosure is what I'm after here .... There is some touchup paint at the top of the left front wheel well and a couple of dabs on the front valance panel and the like ... All showing good care for this well kept example.
