Estate sale. This one owner 1980 Volvo 262 Bertone coupe was lovingly owned by Frances Anderson of Sacramento. She bought it brand new for a staggering sum of $17,108.95. Now Mrs. Anderson must have been some negotiator. In combing through the recrods, the window sticker showed another staggering sum of $18,246 for the suggested retail price. The smaller sticker showed a dealer markup of $589, Pin Stripe of $ 49, AM/FM stereo of $235.95 and polyglycoat(paint protection) of $225.00. This brought the total price of the Bertone to $19,344.95. Now our Mrs. Anderson must have been a skilled negotiator to get an out the door price of $17,108.95. Now we were just starting the Reagan years and interest was climbing through the roof. She didn't even finance the Bertone!! Now, many years later, she has passed and her Vovlo is available to the next adoring owner. There are numerous handwritten records in the two inch thick file too. It was repainted one time in gold. The interior is decent in the rear seats with one tear and the top(see photo). The front seats will need to be recovered. There are covers on there now. The dash does have some cracks(see photo). The glass is all intact on the Bertone. This one is a rare, vinyl top delete car. It looks exactly like the car pictured on the owner's manual. This is also proof positive that this was indeed a vinyl delete Bertone. The cars starts, runs and drives great. The speedometer is touchy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It is over 30 years old and not too many original ones are still around. The A/C was converted in 1999 to 134A. The belt will need to be reinstalled. The compressor and clutch spins freely. The top of the roof has some surface rust(see photo). Other than that, it is a rust free California car. It sill even has the original blue plates from 1981. The original Volvo radio is still in the dash too. The original tool kit and jack is still in the trunck in the original bag. If you have been looking for a Bertone for a while, your search is over. Drive as you restore and enjoy the thumbs up and admiring looks from other Volvo owners. My sons have affectionately nicknamed the Bertone, "Frankenstein". Kind of funny if you think about it. Selling this rare, non-vinyl top Bertone for NO RESERVE. Final bid gets to take it home.
