1968 Jeepster Commando Very Original 1968 Jeepster Commando 4x4 69,000 documented original miles Presented here for your consideration is a classic and very original 1968 Kaiser Jeepster Commando 4x4. I bought this vehicle recently thinking that I wanted to build a classic 4x4 project as a change of pace, but after playing with it for a little bit, I realized I’m a muscle car guy at heart and so the Commando needs a new home. What appealed to me and may to you as well, is the originality that this Jeepster Commando retains. It’s not cut up, still has the original 225 Dauntless V6 that runs great, with original air cleaner assembly and uncut dash. Please enjoy the pictures and video and feel free to make reasonable offers. I am here to sell it. ----- VIDEO ----- BODY/ PAINT: This is an unrestored and original vehicle. It looks to have been touched up over the years here and there but it has a number of chips, scratches, bumps and bruises… etc. It looks decent for a driver. Looks like there has been some body work done in it on the passenger rear area, about where the spare tire is. If you are looking for a driver quality classic 4x4, this one is tough to beat. She’s no beauty queen, but a good base to start with if you wanted to restore a classic 4x4 or just drive one around. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTERIOR: The interior on the vehicle is clean. Looks like the upholstery has been redone at some point in the past. No rips or tears. The dash is in great shape. Speedometer, temperature gauge and dash lights work. Fuel gauge does not. Original radio in place, antenna is not hooked up, so I do not know if it works. The heater does work and blower motor blows strong. Carpet has been replaced. Shift boots look like new. Pedal pads show just enough wear to substantiate 69,000 original miles. The interior feels clean and sanitary. Not often found in an unrestored vehicle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENGINE/TRANSMISSION Dauntless 225ci 2v V6 – Runs strong. Factory original, nothing changed or modified. Recently rebuilt carburetor, timing chain replaced, oil pump and pick up, timing cover gaskets, oil pan gasket and reman waterpump. An electric fuel pump has been added. Original Dauntless V6 stickers can still be seen on the sides of the valve covers. Recent battery and fuel filter. These engines are known to be tough, torquey little beasties. I’ve driven it 100-150 miles. Stays cool, runs reliably and doesn’t leak a drop. 69,000 original miles and this engine has never been out. Original 3spd manual trans. All gears good including reverse, easy to find and fairly forgiving. Good clutch. Transfer case in good shape, four wheel drive works fine. I’ve never taken it off road, nor did the previous owner. Original exhaust manifolds, into a single exhaust exiting the rear. The exhaust piping has been replaced at some time in the fairly recent past. It’s aluminized steel and looks to be about 2” in diameter, which is likely larger than stock. The muffler was replaced as well. Rear end is a stock unit. Unknown gear ratio. No howling, or abnormal noises. Runs and drives well. My guess is that someone used this as their camping vehicle. With 69,000 original miles and a custom tow ball added, would be great to tow a small boat or pop up tent trailer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brakes, Steering, Suspension and Structure Not much to say here. Stock manual brakes, stock manual steering. Goes straight down the road, brakes as predictably as a manual brake vehicle will. The suspension is original. New shocks in the front with helper springs added to the rear, likely to help support while towing. The Jeepster does have newer General Grabber AW tires on it. Size 225/75/15 A few small blisters on the rocker panels, but the frame and under structure look to be in pretty good shape. No major rust/rot found. ------------------------------------------------ Jambs and Rear Passenger Area The jambs are rust and damage free. The rear passenger area has been finished out nicely with carpet. Tailgate is in great shape. Straight, no rust. The rear hatch holds itself up well, no issues. This is a nice, honest platform for a classic 4x4 restoration or just a cool old Jeepster Commando to have and enjoy as is. They are pretty rare, especially in this original condition. 69,000 documented original miles is hard to beat. The ignition key also locks and unlocks both doors and the rear hatch. It’s not perfect, but it seems to be reliable and the title is clean and clear. She needs a new home, feel free to make reasonable offers. I’m not looking to give it away, but it is exactly as I bought it, so I am not heavily invested in it. I am willing to make someone a fair market deal. The vehicle is sold AS IS. If you want to arrange to see it in person, I’d be happy to accommodate you while the auction is running. I do know a great transport broker if you need transport help. I’d be happy to assist, however the cost of transport is on the buyer. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
