Vehicle Detail
I have up for auction my 1959 Edsel Ranger 4 door sedan. Everything on the car is original except for the paint. It has been redone a time or two in its life. Paint looks good from 20 feet but is faded in places, checked in spots, and peeling here and there. Look at the pictures, it looks good but see some of the close ups for actual condition. It looks red in the pics, but is really more of a burnt orange color. The odometer quit working in the past couple years but I haven't put over a 1000 miles on it since then. The interior is all original and looks descent but the seats have a couple rips as shown in the pictures. Door panels are scratched and worn some and driver armrest has a crack. Clock and radio are not working as far as I know. Antenna top is missing. Pictures show that the front grille half on the driver side is bent, but I have replaced it with a good one from another 59. Edsel emblem on the front hood shows a missing letter, but I got another set and added the missing letter. Front bumper is fair a couple small dent then the corner of the passenger side half is dented (about fist size) and turn signal light doesnt want to stay in, so it is wired up to keep it there. Rear bumper has some bumps and bruises. Trim is all on the car most is nice a few small dents and dings and the diecast pieces are pitted as shown. As far as I know the floorpan is solid with no holes. Trunk has holes on each side and rust around mount. Lower fenders and rear wheel well areas have rust. Body has been fixed on the outside but bondo or fiberglass patch is breaking loose somewhat. Frame is solid. I have had the car for 3 or 4 years and now I'm going to let someone else enjoy it. I'm remodeling my whole house and could use the money for repairs. The car runs descent and the two speed Mile-O-Matic transmission shifts well. If you rev the car it will backfire. I put a correct rebuilt carburetor on it and it has started well for me every time even if I let it sit for some time. I had the intake manifold gasket replaced because it was leaking and not running well. The car smokes (white smoke) pretty badly and the doesn't have a lot of power for being a V8 so I guess the motor should be rebuilt. It does leak oil and will stain your concrete if you don't put something down to catch the drips. Front windshield and passenger vent window are cracked and have been that way since I got it. It passed inspection in my state since it is not in the line of sight. Other flatglass side windows are delaminating some but useable. The exhaust system has been redone by the previous owner and is probably about 7 or 8 years old but still looks new. This is a basic car with no frills, no power brakes, no power steering, no a/c. But isn't that the way they all use to be back in the day! The tires are narrow white walls with half or more tread left. They look good although they are old and they aren't showing dry rot cracks. I have kept the car inside to keep it from rusting anymore because the trunk and door seals are old and leak a tiny bit. Altogether it is a good car to restore, drive, or even part if you so wish. I hate to see a restorable car parted but some people will part them. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty. It is guaranteed to be running and driving when you purchase it but it is a 50+ year old car and anything could go wrong at any time. Once in your possession it is your responsability if anything goes wrong. I am selling the car with no reserve to the highest bidder. I have more in the car than the starting price but I got enjoyment out of it. This car would make a great Christmas gift for the restoration enthusiast in your life or Edsel lover! If you have anymore quetions, please call Carl at 417 252 7474 7am to 9pm CST only thank you. I have gotten 14 mpg when driving highway; no too bad for an old car! At the request of a fellow ebayer (because I forgot to include this), here is the data plate info.
