Vehicle Detail

1966 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser This extraordinarily clean Land Cruiser has just had an amateur frame-off restoration. All parts and trim showing wear or weathering were replaced or repaired, down to every single nut, bolt and screw. The paint is single-stage and done by an amateur, but looks very close to original in finish and quality. Almost no body filler was used, so you can see every spot weld and wave in the sheet metal, which was almost completely free of rust before the restoration began. YouTube video: Click here Engine Details Original engine replaced with a 2F, 4.2 liter six cylinder from a 1978 Land Cruiser Carburetor is a Carter YFA, a 195cfm single-barrel from a Ford 4.9 liter inline six (year unknown, no emissions equipment) Upgraded, fully transistorized ignition has special advance-retard control on the dash All gaskets and seals replaced, and no leaks Cooling System A 4-core aluminum radiator was fitted some years ago, and is clean and cooling well with no leaks. An electric water pump was also fitted then, replacing the factory mechanical one. This heavy-duty water pump is rebuildable and has not seen much use. An electric fan also replaces the belt-driven one, and can be disabled for water crossings. A warning light appears on the dash when the fan is disabled. Electrical System A heavy-duty frame-mounted battery tray was constructed to hold dual batteries. 2 new NAPA Legend batteries are installed, with more than 900 cold cranking amps between them. A "Mean Green," GM CS-style 300-amp alternator could be used to power your onboard welder. The alternator's output is too high for the original ameter in the instrument cluster, and uses a warning light on the dash instead. The wiring harness was unwrapped, cleaned, all damaged or weathered parts replaced, and reinstalled with new coverings and components. Additional Brake Lights were added, as well as reverse lights and full running lights forward. Transmission The original 3-speed was replaced with the 4-speed from a 1978, but the original 10-spline transfer case was retained. This desirable but rare combination results in a lower-geared low-range than any other Land Cruiser using factory equipment. All seals replaced in both Transmission and Transfer Case Special "Seamaster" gear installed to adapt newer transmission to original Transfer Case Strengthening bracket added to transfer case for rock crawling Transfer Case shifting linkage modified to allow you to select low-range independently of 4WD New driveshafts to accommodate this unit, with new U-joints of course Axles Front ball & claw joints (not Birfield joints) rebuilt and re-sealed. Original Warn front hubs rebuilt with new bushings. Dana 60 rear hubs with Warn lockers and 30-spline chromoly 1-ton full-floating axle shafts Winch The factory PTO Winch is a rarity, and is far stronger than any of the commonly-available electric winches most people have these days. You benefit from having all the speeds of your transmission available to drive the winch, in both forward and reverse. This Land Cruiser is especially unique because since you can unlock the rear hubs and select low range while still in 2WD, you can use low range to drive the winch. That makes this one of the very strongest winch setups you are likely to see on the trail. Hard Top New Gel Coat restores the strength and weather resistance of the fiberglass top. Most people just paint them, but this one is truly better. New window grommets New weather stripping on all joints and closures. New headliner has some wrinkles from packaging, but hopefully these will smooth out after it's had some time in the sun. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ascertain the condition of the vehicle and make all appropriate inquiries. Notes on Condition: The photos and videos in this ad and its links are current and represent as accurately as possible the condition of the vehicle. The paint is new but not professionally done, and looks fantastic but is not blemish-free. Mechanically, all systems appear sound and the truck runs and operates well, but we were unsatisfied with the amount of power the engine had, and suggest using a different carburetor. If you would like to do that, we will be happy to assist you installing it, but make no guarantees. Notes on Shipping: We will deliver the truck for free to buyers in the following states: Washington Oregon California Montana Idaho Wyoming Utah Nevada Colorado Arizona We can also deliver it to any freight depot and/or help your shipper load it. If we undertake delivery, we will do so on an uncovered trailer at the sole risk of the buyer, after payment has been made in full. Payment: Only Cash, Certified Check, or PayPal is accepted. Full payment is required within 7 days of close of auction.
