1957 VW OVAL LA CARRERA PANAMERICA RALLY RACE CAR THE RACE IS OVER FOR THIS YEAR AND TIME TO START PLANNING FOR NEXT YEAR ! THIS IS MY PERSONAL CAR THAT WAS CUSTOM RE-BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP FOR THE FAMOUS LA CARRERA PANAMERICANA MEXICAN ROAD RACE OR THE CHIHUAHA ROAD RACE. NO EXPENSES WERE SPARED, ONLY THE FINEST FOR THIS CAR WHICH WAS BUILT AND PREPARED IN SAN DIEGO BY RACERS WHO BUILD OFF-ROAD CARS FOR THE BAJA 500 AND 1000. THIS IS ONE TOUGH, SOLID, SAFE CAR. CAR HAS 2327 KM ON IT SINCE BUILT = 1445 MILES ! IT IS LITERALLY BRAND NEW. I DRIVE IT TO WORK ONCE A WEEK JUST TO KEEP IT FRESH. LITERALLY STARTING AT THE BOTTOM, A NEW PAN WAS USED. ALL TUBING IN THE 6 POINT ROLL CAGE IS CHROMOLY AND IS TIED TO BOTH FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS WITH 1 INCH BENT BEHIND THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS WITH THE STOCK F/R BUMPERS MOUNTED TO LOOK STOCK. BOTH BUMPERS ARE PINNED FOR QUICK REALEASE TO TAKE THEM OFF, IF NEEDED. EVERYTHING INSIDE WAS PAINTED TO MATCH THE OUTSIDE CUSTOM PAINT WHICH IS A BMW SPARLKLE SILVER COLOR WITH CLEAR. THE SUSPENSION WAS SET UP AS ANY NICE PORSCHE 356 WOULD BE SET UP STARTING WITH REAL PORSCHE HEART WHEELS 5 1/2 UP FRONT AND DEEP 6 IN THE BACK POLISHED WITH YOKOHAMA TIRES 205/60 AND 195/60. WILWOOD 4-PISTON CALIPERS AND DRILLED ROTORS UP FRONT WITH DRILLED DISC BRAKES IN BACK. LINK-PIN SUSPENSION HAS BEEN DE-CAMBERED BY RE-BUSHING FOR NEGATIVE CAMBER. ARMS HAVE BEEN BOXED. EVERYTHING IS POWDERCOATED, PLATED OR CHROMED. BIG SWAY BAR IN FRONT WITH CUSTOM MOUNTS. REAR SUSPENSION HAS POLY BUSHINGS, BIGGER SWAY-A-WAY TORSION BARS AND ADJUSTABLE SPRING PLATES, AND CAMBER COMPENSATOR. CAR HAS FRONT AND REAR RED ADJUTABLE KONI SHOCKS. CAR HAS FRONT SKID PLATE (IN CASE YOU MISS THE TOPES !) AND REAR SKID PLATE UNDER THE MOTOR/TRANNY. TRANNY HAS JUST BEEN GONE THROUGH TO ADD A SLIGHTLY TALLER 4TH GEAR TO GET THE REVS DOWN A LITTLE AT SPEED WITH THE 4:37 KLINGENBURG R/P. IT HAS SWAY-A-WAY AXLES, 1 PIECE BOOTS, WELDED SYNCHROS, ETC. (THE WORKS) TOP SPEED IS ABOUT 100 MPH. THE MOTOR IS A FRESH 1835 WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON IT. DELLORTO 40 CARBS, SLR CAM WITH RATIO ROCKERS, BERG CRANK, NEW CNC PORTED HEADS. MOTOR IS STRONG AND RUNS ON PREMIUM. MOTOR HAS ALL STEEL BRAIDED LINES WITH A SETRAB OIL COOLER WITH THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED FAN AND EARLS MECHANICAL TEMPERATURE THERMOSTAT (LIKE A 911) TO WARM IT UP BEFORE SENDING OIL TO THE COOLER. FULL INSTRUMENTATION INSIDE INCLUDING CHT (CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE), OIL PSI, OIL TEMP, AIR/FUEL RATIO DIGITAL GUAGE, VOLTAGE, FUEL SAFE FUEL LEVEL GUAGE, TACHOMETER AND KM SPEEDOMETER (FOR MEXICO). WIRING IS CUSTOM AND AWESOME. CAR HAS 2 MALLORY CDI BOXES WITH 2 LOW-OHM COILS WITH A QUICK CHANGE PLUG IN CASE YOU EVER HAVE TROUBLE AND NEED TO CHANGE OVER TO THE OTHER SYSTEM.
