NOTE: READ THE RED STUFF AT THE BOTTOM FIRST IF YOU ARE AN INTERESTED BIDDER!!! I've decided to re-list my very rare 1985 HRC Honda RS250R race bike after receiving several offers after the auction closed. I also realized that shouldn't have asked those interested in the bike to take my word for it that it runs, and runs well. So, with that in mind I made a video of a ride around my neighborhood for all to see. I know that I would be skeptical spending any amount of money on something without seeing it for myself. The video can be seen here: www.http://youtu.be/g00ty-R8G6A and if not, simply search "lifeislarge72" on YouTube and you will find it there. Keep in mind that all I had available was 93 gas and Castor 927 in a residential area so I had to take it easy. Due to differences in time zones, I would recommend you bid early with your max and see where it goes. I simply cannot ensure that it doesn't end in the middle of the night for someone!!! This bike is one of only four imported to the US in 1985, and one of 40 made that year. Matching serial numbers RS250RF-5143 (frame) and RS250RE-5143 (engine). There are unconfirmed numbers remaining, but as of this listing I have only found 11 to exist in the world (feel free to correct me if I am wrong). This bike would make an awesome addition to any museum, collection or would be perfect for vintage racing events. For the uninitiated, this is a Honda Racing factory built 250cc two stroke race bike. Tuned properly, it will rev in the range of 14,000 RPM. Weighing in at only 102KG this bike is pure race inspired performance. And damn fun to ride!!! This bike has been raced lightly up until the late 90's, when it was put into dry storage. Since coming out I have cleaned the carbs and the petcocks, and started and ran the bike for a few minutes to ensure proper function. It was put away as a roller with different wheels and the rear brakes removed. With fresh gas it starts right up and runs well. The pistons have about 100 miles on them, and have always been changed out at between 200 and 250 miles. I am including several used pistons (see parts sheets) with the boxes labeled with the mileage. This bike was always anally prepped for races, and never pushed beyond safe limits. It has never been wrecked. The fiberglass is all complete, with no repairs and a few spider cracks in the paint. It is rumored to be a spare set acquired from Spencer himself, but I have absolutely no confirmation of that whatsoever. The windscreen is in excellent condition. I am including a spare rear fairing (original???) in decent shape and a spare front upper that is in pretty bad shape. The fairings pictured would be an easy paint and prep should one decide to do a replica restore. I would rate the body components an easy 8/10 for their age and use. Even the paint is in good condition. The frame is in good condition with an obvious repair to the right rear pillar (see pics) and what appears to be a small repair at the right front main brace. These in no way affect the performance or integrity of the frame and could easily be cleaned up or redone. The engine is complete including the original ATAC system that has been removed. The cylinders are in good condition as is the crank. I am including two used cylinders that still have plenty of life left in them as well as a spare used crank in good condition as well. You will also get a ton of NOS spare engine parts including 4 complete brand new piston assemblies (piston, bearing, pin and clips). Included also are NOS seals, gaskets, and o-rings. The exhaust is in overall okay condition, with Toomey silencers in good condition. I have the original cans but they would need to be rebuilt by someone pretty talented. Overall, the bike is in running condition, but the new owner will obviously want to do a complete inspection prior to running the bike in any fashion other than a casual ride. The fuel tank is original, and has a few small cracks that have been repaired (completely overdone) with JB weld (see pics). It is currently tight and hasn't leaked in years, the underside just looks funky. I have the original Comstar wheels, the factory front and rear stands, the original well used owners manual/parts list, and a plethora of NOS and serviceable used spares. As these bikes are so rare, the spares themselves are worth a good portion of the reserve price of this bike. I have made a complete inventory and can email it to you if necessary. I have put a low reserve on the entire package, and tried to be as thorough and honest in my description as possible. Again, this is a rare, running, numbers matching, HRC race bike with spares, which would make for a relatively easy restoration/replica project, or vintage race bike as it is with very little prep work to be track worthy. If you have any questions or concerns PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me and I will do my level best to answer them. Unfortunately, due to the rarity of these bikes, there isn't a lot of information to be had. I do however have the contact information for the guy at HRC who imported these bikes to the US personally (yes, he's still with Honda Racing). I will only pass this info on to the buyer. Now for the legal stuff..... This bike is being sold as-is, with no warranty implied or otherwise. The bike has no title as it was manufactured for race only but I will include a Bill of Sale. Buyer is responsible for arranging and paying for any and all shipping, but I will do my best to accommodate the shippers instructions. The spares are heavy, and bulky (wheels, fairings and parts) and will have to be taken into consideration when shipping as well. Any additional packaging required will be at the buyers expense (receipts provided). I live in Jacksonville Florida, one of the largest shipping ports on the East Coast, with two huge Navy Bases. Members of our military are constantly shipping their belongings overseas from here so shipping should not be a problem to Europe. Pacific countries will probably have to arrange ground transportation to California as well. I am willing to store the bike at no charge for a period of two weeks after receiving final payment. After that, a fee of $15 per week for a max of four weeks will be assessed. I don't like being responsible for things other people have bought and paid for, and in the past have had to store a bike for two months prior to shipping which I am not willing to do again. I require a $1000 deposit within 48 hours of auction close. PayPal is an acceptable form of payment however there will be a 3% surcharge for US transfers, and a 4% surcharge for International buyers. Even with these surcharges, I still lose so please consider this when paying. The balance is due within 72 hours of receipt of the deposit. Should you back out of the purchase after paying the deposit, I will refund $900, retaining $100 for my time and re-listing fees. Serious bidders only, please. If you have less than 10 positive feedback scores within the last year, or ANY retracted bids, failure to pay, or feedback less than 97%, please contact me prior to bidding. I would like for this transaction to be as smooth as possible for both parties involved. Thanks, and good luck bidding!!!!
