Vehicle Detail

For Sale: Estate Purchase. 1917 Dodge Brothers Touring Car. The car is very solid and has been in dry storage for ove 20 years. The original color seems to be blue with black front fenders. The tires appear to be new at the time the car was stored. The engine is a 4 cylinder that generates 35 HP and the electrical system is 12 volt which was an innovation developed by the Dodge Brothers. The photos show the car which is on jack stands in its original as found condition, dust and all. The engine is not running and I did not try to get it running. The engine appears to be in great condition. There is no top but there are 5 wood bowes to be used for the top but I am not sure if they are original to this car. The wood bowes are in very good condition. I found a steel hood in the back seat area but when installed, it does not appear to fit perfecty. There may need to be some metal forming adjustments made. The body appears very solid with only surface rust. I did not notice any spots that are rusted through. There is some bondo on the left rear fender and on the body near the fender but no signs of rust there. The top windshield has a crack in the upper left corner. The interior appears to be original with only the front seat showing the original leather seat. the seats will require complete recovering. The original oak floor boards and running boards are in place as is the original plaque showing the Vehicle I. D. number on the floorboard. The dash board appears to be totally in tact and the speedometer was found in the glove box. The foot pedals, shifter and hardbrake are all in tact. The brakes are mechanical. This is a fine restoration candidate since so much of the car is original. I also found two glass lenses for the headlights in the glove box although the glass lenses do not appear to match, but one of the lenses is a rare Warner Patterson Lenz made in Chicago around 1920. I located the original owners manual and advertising literature under the front seat. They are in tact with the exception of some rodent nibbling of the paper. This care is being sold with no warranty. Local pickup or arrange your own transportation. Thanks for looking. Special Note: When this vehicle was first listed, it was listed as a 1925 model. Thanks to the trained eyes of Ebayers that know this vehicle I learned that it is probably a 1917 or 1918 model. The serial number of 151189 indicates that the car was built in the summer of 1917 so it may have been titled as a 1917 or 1918 vehicle. Thanks to all who have contributed to this correction.
