Vehicle Detail

Background: 153k miles - Previous owner had a low mileage JDM silvertop 20v 4A-GE professionally swapped in by R1 Motors. mr220v (of MR2OC forums fame) did the harness. The swap was very clean and the engine bay shows it. Previous owner also was in process of restoring car. It had new clutch reservoir, brake master cylinder, rack and pinion, tail light gaskets, alternator, new 87+ rotors. Car was repainted viper red a few years ago (unsure of time). No leaks, no rust, no (known) accidents. Carfax is clean. Looked like a solid car! :) 168k miles - I purchased the car and continued to restore and improve it. I nearly replaced the entire suspension and a bunch of other things (see list). Basically 90% of the items listed below were installed less than 12k miles ago. The car now has just over 180k miles. My work sent me to China so in Nov, 2011 I put the car in storage at my parent's house in Hemet, California (very dry) inside a newly constructed fully-enclosed car port with a car cover. I also jacked the car off the ground with 4x8 plywood sheets sitting underneath. Oil was changed and fuel stabilizer was added before storage. As you can see I'm very protective of my baby. The car was recently taken out of storage and fired right up. A solar charger kept the battery in great shape. Highlights: Last year the suspension was completely overhauled (see parts list). This car is super light and super nimble. The handling is amazing. It also averages 30-32 mpg. I once tried hypermiling on my way back from the San Jose area and acheived 35 mpg. Car is rust free without leaks. Exhaust system was completely replaced. I went for better flow with OEM sound and appearance. Has high quality aftermarket CAT and passed smog last year with flying colors (see notes below). The car looks beautiful inside and out and is pure joy to drive on any twisty road. It is not a rice rocket and I have strived to modify the car in good taste. Maintenance: Redline synthetic gear oil. Full synthetic motor oil every 3000 miles. It only takes like 3 quarts to fill up this motor (no joke) so it's a no brainer to go full synthetic. Oil changes cost me less than $20. Storage: Believe it or not, the Mark 1 MR2 has the most space of all the MR2s. You have a frunk, a trunk, and space behind the seats. Knit-picks: I would rate the paint a 8 out of 10. A friend bumped the front right bumber when it was parked causing a few small paint flakes to fall off. The seats were originally blue and were dyed black by the previous owner. They are starting to show blue in some spots, but few people would notice. This car runs on Premium fuel only (91 to 93 octane). I replaced the dash last year but there is a small blemish on the right side (visible in pictures below). It looks repairable. This car has a motor swap so it's not California smog legal. Any other state it should pass safety/smog with flying colors. In California it can pass the actual smog test but unless you have connections it will definitely fail a visual test. If the new owner wants to drive the vehicle on California roads it is completely up to them to handle smog. I am selling the car as-is for off-road use only. Registration is currently set to non-op as California law does not allow you to have an active registration if the car has no insurance, even if it's permanently parked. However, the car has no back fees whatsoever. To reactivate it (in California) you only need to pay $89 for tags, have proof of insurance, and get it smogged. I can email you proof from the DMV, just send me a message. Title is also free and clear. Weight Savings: 86 hardtop = lightest factory mk1 MR2 Removed AC compressor, condenser and AC lines Removed woofer under driver's seat Removed trunk lining Removed spare + jack from frunk (still available) Deka EXT14 battery (12 lbs vs 36 lbs stock) Estimated weight: 2350 lbs was supposedly the factory weight. So I'm pretty sure it's less than 2300 lbs now. Extras: Factory Toyota MR2 car cover Factory 2nd Gen MR2 Turbo exhaust (was saving this for when a planned turbo project that never happened). Rear visor (currently removed. Was going to tint it and never got around to it) Donut spare and jack. Maybe a few other odds and ends. As you can see I'm trying to be 100% forthcoming and honest about this car. Very small gripes for such an awesome car. The pictures speak for themselves. However, I cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of the statement above. The winning bidder is 100% responsible for having the car checked out at their own expense PRIOR to bidding. The winning bidder is also 100% responsible for any smog/registration required in whichever state they intend to register the car. Due to California's stupid smog laws I am selling this as-is for off-road use only. Payment: Cash for local buyers. Bank wire only for out-of-state buyers. Car will only be released once the funds have cleared my account. Out-of-state buyers are responsible for arranging their own shipping. On Nov-14-12 at 17:46:56 PST, seller added the following information: For Arizona and other out-of-state bidders wanting to drive the car home: I think two permits are necessary. One to drive the car out of California, and one to drive in AZ. 1) http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/reg_hdbk/ch25/ch25_2.htm - 1-day CA permit. Must be obtained at CA DMV in-person. It's free. Fortunately, there is a DMV 3.6 miles from the car. 2) https://servicearizona.com/webapp/permit3/permitInfo.do?popularclick - 3-day AZ permit. Cost $1. Can be bought and printed online. I imagine every state has some sort of temporary permit you can obtain for this purpose. Obligator Disclaimer: I've never done this myself so you should call your Department of Motor Vehicles to verify. It is the bidder's responsibility to research and sort out transportation. Of course, I will try to help as much as possible. If you have any questions, please free free to contact me via eBay. Happy bidding!
