Up for bids is a 1982 AMC Spirit DL hatchback. This vehicle is equipped with the famous 258 2-barrel inline six engine and a 904 Torqueflite automatic transmission. Overall this car is in good condition. A lifelong Georgia and South Carolina car, this car has NO RUST anywhere. The body is solid, but there is light/minor damage to the left front fender at this time due to hydroplaning into a ditch. The trim and bumpers are all in excellent condition but the car could stand a good paint job. All the glass is good and weatherstrips are in good condition. The front turn signal lenses have been replaced with NOS units (a few years ago) and both the rear sidemarker lights are in mint condition. The car is currently 1982 AMC Brown Metallic, but the car was originally Sun Yellow with side stripes. The interior is the original Nutmeg color and has been reupholstered but the carpet has faded since its installation years ago and could stand to be replaced. The seats and door panels are nice and all the plastic interior panels are in good shape and not rotten or crumbly. The car is equipped with a center console and the center console gauges. The dash cluster is the standard unit and does not have the optional tachometer. Mechanically, the engine is worn out and is currently NOT running. It is suspected that the timing chain has failed although it was replaced with a roller timing chain from a 4.0 several years ago. The oil pump has been replaced and many other mechanical features have been refreshed. The transmission was professionally rebuilt about 6 years ago. The AC compressor has been replaced and the AC working fine when the engine stopped running. The problematic original Motorcraft ignition system has been replaced with an MSD ignition system for reliability. The problematic original plastic valve cover has been replaced with an aluminum one to prevent leakage. The rear end is the original unit and aside from a fluid change has never needed attention. This car has been seen at numerous AMC shows over the years and has made the long haul to Houston, Texas, Kenosha, Wisconsin, Lansing, Michigan and various points in between. The tires are worn to the point of needing replacement. They are currently mounted on an exceptionally nice set of AMC Turbocast II wheels and the lug nuts are all very nice. This car is overall well equipped optionwise. The car has the optional 3-piece rear spoiler, the aforementioned Turbocast II wheels, tilt steering, sport steering wheel, console and console gauges, power operated side mirrors (these were NOS units when installed about 6 years or so ago and are still in exceptional condition), power hatch release, intermittent wipers, rear window defroster and power door locks. The car also features the premium AMC digitally tuned AM/FM cassette player that works very well. Overall, this is a good candidate for either restoration or install a fresh engine and use it as a daily driver. This car has been owned by AMC enthusiasts for over 12 years and has gotten awards at AMC shows in the past. It's an economical, comfortable highway car and would be a great little car for whatever you want to use it for. This car is currently located in Dacula, GA.
