Vehicle Detail

This 1965 GTO is an exceptional car for the true GTO enthusiast looking to restore this classic car off-the-frame. It is a PHS-documented "matching numbers" California-built car with a very solid body and with all major parts. The floor panels, quarter panels, rocker panels, etc. are all solid. The car was last licensed in California in 1993 which means that no road salt every touched this car. This car has very little rust anywhere--just very small spots on right front and right rear fenders. An off-the-frame restoration was begun by a previous owner so the car is partially dis-assembled. The car runs and drives fine. I have driven it three times in the past four weeks. In 2005-2006, I hired a professional to restore my 1957 Chevrolet 2-Door Hardtop "off the frame". So I know exactly how difficult it is to find parts for a 50-year old car. Fortunately, the 1957 had most of its original parts so that task was much easier. Some parts were no longer available and had to be re-manufactured. This GTO has all of its original major parts. Further, the same professional restorer who restored my '57 found this 1965 GTO and thoroughly checked it out before I purchased it. He found the body solid, the engine running smoothly, and the car shifting fine. This professional restorer will gladly attest to the car's condition. When pricing the car for sale, I analyzed the cost of reproduction parts with Original Parts Group, Inc,, the parts supplier featured on the TV show "Overhaulin". I went through the catalog page-by-page and was amazed at how expensive the reproduction parts were. Some parts (e.g. the left and right fenders, the "Pontiac" stainless steel piece that goes on the rear just below the trunk lid, the steel inner fenderwells, etc.) are not even available through OPGI. So finding them will be extremely difficult and very expensive. The reproduction parts I listed from the catalog are either on the car or in boxes and totalled $9,246. And that does not include the cost of the aforementioned hard-to-find parts which were not listed in the catalog. So the car's parts value alone is more than $11,000. I will email this parts analysis to any interested party. Some specifics about the 1965 GTO from the PHS docs are listed below. I'll be glad to email you the car's PHS build card and build sheets to verify that this is a true GTO not a clone. - 389 cubic inch- 4 barrel Carter AFB carburetor- 4-speed- Rally Gauge Cluster & Tachometer - Safe-T-Track Rear Axle- has been partially disassembled by a prior owner who started the restoration - this is a huge plus as evidenced by anyone who has ever taken a car apart - as you can see from the photos, the car was primed to eliminate rusting- all major parts are either on the car or in boxes- lots of boxes of small parts including all the GTO emblems, badges, etc.According to http://nadaguides.com/ the low retail value of a driver 1965 GTO is $18,860. So this car is priced at a steal for the GOAT enthusiast who wants a solid car to restore off the frame Note: The seller already has several parties already interested in the car and reserves the right to sell this car privately. The car will not be available for pickup until all payments have cleared my bank. Preferred types of payment are $1,000 deposit via PayPal with balance paid either by wire transfer or cash. Please feel free to call me directly at 615.948.4879 to discuss this rare car. I have only shown a limited number of photos on eBay but have about a hundred photos that I will be glad to email to interested parties. Serious inquiries only.
