1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible. A rare survivor of only 9039 built. 289 ci V-8 engine with 4-barrel carburetor. Automatic transmission, power steering, electric top. All 100% complete and running excellent. Everything works. Odometer says 135,300 miles, but can only verify it was kept in a garage and driven less than 3000 miles in the last 11 years. I just completed a 1800 mile road trip down the west coast with my wife. Before the trip, the carburetor was rebuilt, and new radiator, water pump, tires and battery were installed. The compression tested between 130 - 140 psi in all 8 cylinders. After the trip the engine oil is still clean and full. The engine starts and runs great, and pulls strongly up hills. This is a great driver, or a good candidate for restoration as everything is 100% complete and original down to the trim and hub caps. For full disclosure I have included photos of the defects. There are 2 small bubles in the paint around the trim just behind the convertible top. The largest of the 2 is shown with my finger pointing to it. There are also paint bubbles above the right rear fender as shown. Aft of this area the fender is solid. I removed the carpet in the trunk, and found surface rust there, but no holes (photo). I dug out some of the seam sealer to look for hidden rust, but found the trunk, and trunk pan and inside the wheel wells solid. The car is located in Costa Mesa CA.
