How about a new 1967 Mustang? This isn’t merely a restored car, but an all-new scratch-built car that features fresh Dynacorn sheetmetal that is as fresh as the 2013 Mustang down at your Ford dealer. This hand-built machine has already collected 14 best of show awards, and delivers performance to match its outrageous look. The Eleanor look is hard to beat, taking what is arguably the best-looking Mustang of all time and taking it to an entirely new level. Borrowing from the Shelby school of design, it sports a split front bumper stuffed with driving lights, molded side skirts with side exhaust, and a custom fiberglass hood designed to clear the nastiest power plant you can find. Genuine Shelby scoops look right at home, as does the flip-up gas cap and molded-in rear spoiler above those sequential-flashing taillights. And since it’s all new, fit and finish are extraordinary, even before they sprayed $20,000 worth of bright Erica Red paint and white stripes, complete with the obligatory GT500E rocker panel call-outs. Yeah, the shape is 1967, but it might look right at home in a modern showroom, don’t you think? Inside, it’s a bit tamer, sticking to the original bucket seats and factory-style dashboard, although custom touches abound. Auto Meter Ultra Light gauges have been fitted in the original pods, inside a billet panel that looks OEM. A/C uses center vents and factory-looking round vents at either end of the dash. Aluminum pedals are a race-inspired look, and who doesn’t love the industrial look of a Hurst shifter sticking out of the transmission tunnel. A genuine Shelby wood steering wheel frames the entire setup, with sounds provided by a simple AM/FM radio, which should tell you something about this car’s performance potential—there’s just no need for music with side pipes singing to you at 6000 RPM. A roll bar adds to the Shelby vibe, and the trunk carries nothing that’ll affect performance. The only part of the chassis that’s vintage is the 70s era 351 Windsor block built by The Engine Factory and cranking out over 450 horsepower. The list of components is extensive with the single purpose of making this the fastest, nastiest ’67 ever built. It has a cool vintage performance look with Cobra valve covers and air cleaner, plenty of polished aluminum, and impressive attention to detail. The Heidt’s front suspension offers adjustable coil-overs and rack-and-pinion steering, while a Curry 9-inch has been stuffed with 3.73 gears. Those tall gears are no problem with the Tremec 3550 5-speed manual transmission or the 4-link suspension that plants the power. 12-inch discs with 4-piston calipers live at all four corners, just barely visible behind those Halibrand-style alloys, now measuring 17 inches in diameter and wearing 245/40/17 front and 255/40/17 rear Goodyear radials. Look this car over, check out the equipment, and realize that it probably cost twice this much to build. Own one of the nastiest Eleanor Mustangs ever built.
