Vehicle Detail

Offered is a 1951 Studebaker Commander 4 door sedan. If you are looking for a Stude that you can jump in and take a comfortable road trip, or show with pride, this is the car for you! In 1987, the car was repainted, new interior and rubber installed, rechromed, and transmission and front end rebuilt. When I bought the car in 2006, the car had been stored in garages and driven only 840 miles! After I purchased it, I replaced tires, hoses, belt, fluids, did a tune up and began driving! I have driven about 900 miles a year since then. (All receipts came with the car) After a few hundred miles, the engine developed a severe rear main seal leak, so I pulled the engine, and pressure washed (including removing core plugs and water pump and flushing out cooling jackets). I then dissambled as needed to replace all gaskets and seals except head gaskets (I did not need to pull the heads). I then reassembled, painted, and reinstalled engine. I then added later style brakes, including 10" drums on the rear. I also replaced all gauges with NOS, replaced the speedo with a good used one (the original had faded numerals). I also added a headlight relay for safety. BODY: The paint and chrome is in excellent condition, with no dents or rust anywhere! I recently added some rechromed hubcaps which are flawless! The trunk is solid, and all doors and windows operate as they should! DRIVETRAIN: The engine runs strong and can keep up with traffic on the freeway without difficulty. The transmission shifts up and down as it should, but has a leak when running. All brakes, drive line, tires etc. are in great shape. The car holds the road straight and true and the steering box is tight. All ancillary components work as they should. INTERIOR: While not the correct material, the seats, headliner and door panels are in excellent condition! Carpeting is clean, and looks good as well. The radio does not work by the way. OVERALL this is a great looking and running car, as an SDC member for 30 years, I can honestly say you can jump in this car and drive it home, or enter in a show today! On Oct-17-12 at 07:10:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Note: When I bought the car in 2006, the car had been driven only 840 miles since the 1987 restoration, and the speedometer also showed 59126 at that time. When I replaced the gauges the speedo read approx. 59980, the "new" speedo read 89465, thus the current mileage is the listed 94887!
