1964 PONTIAC LEMANS CONVERTIBLE - RESTORED - GREAT DRIVER - GARAGED SUMMARY This is a beautiful classic Pontiac that looks great, runs great, and needs nothing other than a new home. You'll have the wind in your hair and sun on your face, listening to a fantastic exhaust note, knowing you're driving the coolest car on the road. The car is incredibly easy to drive. It tracks straight with no pulling, vibrations, or play in the steering. The engine runs great, and the shifting is smooth. We bought the car in 1998, after it had been sitting for 16 years in a barn. It had a great, straight body with very minimal rust or damage,  so we had a full body-on restoration and drivetrain rebuild done in the following year. At that time, we replaced or re built almost every component of the car. The engine and transmission have less than 8,000 miles on the rebuild. After about 2 years of driving it almost daily, I was unable to drive it as frequently as I'd like, so the car ended up sitting in our garage until now. We recently spent some time getting it back into top-running shape, and have even improved or replaced many parts of the car. Since I have not been driving it over the last few years, it's time for it to go to a new home. Be sure to check out the videos below. DESCRIPTION It's a 1964 Pontiac Lemans 2-door convertible 326 cid, with factory AC option and power top. We found the car through a friend in 1998. It was in a barn in Missouri, sitting since 1982. We've got pictures from the first time we saw the car, as well as the restoration (see pics below). The car was originally teal, had a 2 speed power glide automatic, and was a column shift. We changed the color to red, switched to a TH350, and converted it to a console shift. It's got the original engine (rebuilt). We did some other upgrades to make the car easier to drive, including a quick-ratio steering box (makes it much easier to drive around town), front disc brakes and dual master cylinder, upgraded sway bars (front and rear), Edelbrock performer air intake, Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor with electric choke, flex-fan, high-efficiency water pump, dual exhaust with H-pipe, and Cragar wheels. DETAILS The car is in great shape and can be driven daily if you wanted to. Mechanical The engine is extremely smooth, with a steady idle and good power. The transmission shifts as it should. The car starts reliably, although sometimes it takes a few clicks for the solenoid to line up. It has a brand new 160º thermostat. We just did an alignment, bought new tires (old ones were out of round from sitting), and had the wheels balanced. It's got a brand-new alternator as well. Exterior As mentioned, the body is straight as an arrow, and the paint is in good shape. It has some minor nicks and swirls throughout, so the paint is not perfect. But it really shines when it's clean (see the pics). All the trim is in good shape. The chrome bumpers are in excellent condition and have no pitting (re-chromed in 1999). The wheels are in good shape and don't have any curb rash. Tires are brand new (purchased last month). Interior The top is in good shape and does not leak. It does have some smudges we have not been able to remove. It has a brand new power top motor (installed last month), and it works very well. The back window is plastic, and can be unzipped. The blower works fine and has 3 settings, although old cars like this don't flow much air. The heater is disconnected because there was still residual heat coming through the vent system, and I live in Texas. The AC is not hooked up, although all the original parts are there, and the compressor was rebuilt during the restoration. The vinyl seats and carpeting are in good shape. The door panels have hardly a scratch on them. All the gauges work (fuel, speedo, tach). The idiot-lights are connected, although I can only vouch for the accuracy of the "battery" light (it helped us diagnose an electrical problem, so the car has a brand-new self-exciting alternator). All the lighting is working as it should. The headlights and brights (floor switch) work great. All the tail-lights work properly (lights, brakes, signal), as well as the reverse and rear license plate lights. The interior courtesy lights work great in conjunction with the doors, and they can also be activated at the dimmer switch. The windshield wipers work and have 2 speeds, although you probably won't be driving much in the rain. The radio is a digital AM/FM with a classic look and fit. There are 4.5" Cerwin Vega speakers (2 of them) in the doors. CONCLUSION If you've been looking for a classic convertible Pontiac in great shape, that you can actually drive around town, then this is your car. Make sure to watch all the videos and check out all the pictures below. They show a lot more than I can describe here. Thanks for looking! A few videos: A few of our restoration pictures:
