Vehicle Detail
1966 Corvair Monza Convertible – 140HP 4Spd Beautiful Ebony Black Quality Driver is ready to drive and enjoy. Late model Body Style (1965 to 1959) Convertibles are quickly becoming collectible. Everything works on this fun to drive car right down to the clock. Have the history of this car as was related to me by the previous owner. Car originally from Connecticut. Originally restored by a Body Shop owner in West Hartford in the late 80’s who purchased the car from local Corvair enthusiasts who had put the car together from the best of their collection of drive train components. He enjoyed driving it during the fair weather for a few years and then apparently stopped using it. He became ill and passed away and it remained in storage for many years. The previous owner who was familiar with the history of the car and the original restoration purchased the car from the shop owners estate. He then proceeded to do a more extensive mechanical , electrical, and cosmetic restoration over a two year period which was completed in 2008. I will do my best to describe each section of the car as to represent the condition as accurately as possible ENGINE: Great running RN coded 140 (powerglide) motor, not original to car but generally regarded as the best Corvair block due to inherent design crank timing for maximum torque. Cylinders honed .060 Over with TRW forged pistons. 140 cylinder heads, completely redone with new valves, deeper hardened (Ford Escort valve seats), new guides, springs and retainers. Racer Brown SSH-8 cam (275 degree duration with .410 lift) mild grind with 900 Rpm idle. New Harmonic Balancer. Viton pushrod tubes, oil cooler and main seals. 4 rebuilt primary carbs with accelerator pumps provide great throttle response. Good oil pressure and recent compression test was great. Slight oil leak from front main seal (2 quarter size drops after driving and parking) Push rod tubes and Valve cover are dry BODY: Arrow straight body with no rust or evidence of “Bondo”. Rockers and door sills are solid. Car does not flex with doors open which is of critical importance on Corvair Convertibles. Driver quality base coat/clear coat urethane paint from original restoration. Deep gloss shine. Some slight pimpling and one sag on lower portion of RS panel ahead of rear wheel. Some nicks and scratches, but overall would be considered 8 out of 10. Shows real well EXTERIOR TRIM: All body trim present and securely mounted.
