Vehicle Detail
1997 NISSAN MAXIMA GLE 4 DOOR SEDAN V6 AUTOMATIC NO RESERVE I'm selling this car for my niece although up until about 4 years ago the car belonged to us. We got it from a local dealer with only 4000 miles on it. In other words, it was just about a new car. The Nissan Maxima GLE was Nissan's top of the line vehicle. It has virtually every possible option on it from heated leather seats to a homelink transmitter system. My wife at the time was working in Cincinatti . Every Monday evening she would head south out of the Detroit area and then, on Friday afternoon she would drive back home. As such, during the first few years of its life, this car put on lots of easy highway miles. After the weekly 300 mile runs each way ended, the car was used as a local commuter car until a few years ago when our niece, then in high school, needed a car. The Maxima was perfect for her and so it became a high school girl's car, and then a college student's car. Recently, our niece acquired a significantly newer car from her father and so she asked me to list the car for her. On the plus side, the car has only about 131,861 miles on it, on the low side for a '97. It has been well maintained and it runs like a high end Swiss watch. It has a matched set of tires with about 70 % + tread left. Less than 2,000 miles ago the car had $600 worth of brake work done to it. The car has always had oil changes every 4,000 miles. I would not hesitate to hop into this car and drive it anywhere. It comes equipped, in addition to its normal "donut spare tire" with a full sized spare on a Nissan alloy wheel. The interior leather is in good shape and the car is very comfortable to drive either in town, or on a long vacation drive. On the down side, as is typical of a car this age, there are a number of issues that need to be mentioned. I have attempted to cover them all, but if I left anything out, I apologize for not remembering it. The body of this car has many scratches and paint nicks all over it as one could expect from having spent two years parking in a high school parking lot and then another couple of years in a college lot. Also, the body of the car is starting to display signs of rust in typical places like the bottom of wheel arches. I have attempted to take pictures of the rust but they do not always photograph well. For example, there is the start of some rust along the top edge of the windshield. The windshield was replaced about 8 years ago, and either it was not well resealed, or the glass technician, in removing the old glass, scraped the top edge of the windshield opening and didn't notice it. Another spot is near the bottom of the right front fender. The paint is starting to bubble but I was unsuccessful in photographing it. Two rust areas are of special note. The wheel arch at the left rear of the car got scraped when my niece attempted to back the car out of th garage shortly after she got the car and she ended up scraping the wheel arch on the side of the garage. The other significant rusty area is at the lower front edge of the left front fender. The bottom of that fender began to rust and my niece's boyfriend at the time offered to fix it for her. He proceeded to cut out the rust by removing an area approximately six inches square. Then, my niece committed the unpardonable sin of breaking up with said boyfriend before he finished the car. A few months ago I offered to replace the fender for her. I purchased [on ebay] a new replacement fender. I had a friend with a body shop who was going to paint the fender for me. Sadly, he passed away before I got the replacement fender to him. So, the new fender is in the trunk and goes along with the car. You can get it painted and have it put on, do it yourself, or just continue to use the fender with the hole in it and sell the replacement fender. The hole in the fender does not affect how the car runs at all. The intermittent wipers do not work. The regular two speed wipers work fine, but repairing the intermittent wipers involved replacing a computer and the cost of doing so was prohibitive so we never bothered with it. finally, the car has a faint exhaust leak. It is not loud like a missing muffler, but it is a bit louder than it was when the car was new. While my wife was doing her Cincinatti runs, the sound system decided that it didn't like CDs. This drove my wife crazy and so the sound system was replaced with an AM-FM cassette unit with a 6 CD changer in the trunk. This was working perfectly when our niece got the car, but now it does not power up. Blown fuse? A few years ago the sunroof began leaking. A local service station took pity on our niece and used some kind of sealent on the sunroof and then disconnected the power motor that operates the sunroof. If one wanted to, the gasket could be replaced and the sunroof motor reconnected. The check engine light is on. According to the OBDII code readout, this is a fault with the initial on start-up test cycle of the charcoal canister. The canister does what it is supposed to do but it either doesn't open or doesn't close during start-up. this does not affect how the car runs nor how much fuel it uses. Please note that this is a no return sale. Any questions, please ask before bidding. I'm proud of my feedback rating and my twelve + years on eBay. It comes from mutually satisfying transactions and I want to keep it that way. Non-returnable deposit of $250 within 48 hours of auction close. Paypal may be used for deposit only. Payment in cash when the car is picked up. If the high bidder wishes to fly into Detroit Metropolitan Airport or Bishop International Airport [Flint] I can pick you up at the airport. If you need a temporary license plate to drive home we can go to a Secretary of State office near the airport so you can purchase same. If you need a temporary plate, make sure that you arrive when the Michigan Secretary of State offices are open [check their website for hours]. If by chance you plan on sending a commercial car hauler to pick up the car, the driver must be prepared to pay for the car in cash before it leaves the premises. One more thing: I've been burned lately by non-paying bidders. Please bid only if you intend to pay. If I do not receive full payment within seven days, I will file non-paying bidder action with eBay and will either offer the item to the underbidder or relist the item. I have no choice in this matter. I must do this or I have to pay eBay's commission on the sale even if it is not completed. Good luck bidding :)
