Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1976 Honda CB750F Super Sport. The bike is an original survivor with 1400 miles. It is not a show queen, but a solid original machine with a little wear and patina. I purchased the bike in October of 2006 from the original owner. When I bought it, it had 568 miles on it. The story went that the guy bought the bike, then soon thereafter went through a divorce. (Not sure if buying the bike had a role in that!) Anyhow, he didn't want to crash and not see his kids again, but he couldn't part with the bike he had just bought. So he kept it in his basement as a 1:1 scale model for the next 30 years. He would start it and run it around the block every now and again, but that was that. I bought it with the intention to make it a rider. I went through the bike from front to rear. Rebuilt the carbs, inspected and checked the electrical system, and replaced bad components. I also replaced the original tires, which were hard as granite, and had about the same level of grip. I rebuilt and setup the brakes, and the wheel bearings. The chain and sprockets are original. Now, the bike again sat for some time, since I was in the Army at the time, and deployed to Afghanistan from November 06 to March of 07, and again to Iraq from November 07 to January 09. Upon my return and release from the Army in 09, I again got the bike roadworthy and rode it up to the current mileage. The reason the miles are still so low, is that I have two other Honda CBs to ride, (a 550K and 400F), and truth be told, I think the 750 is too big for me. I just prefer the "feel" of the smaller 550. The bike starts and runs like a brand new Honda should, and is cosmetically excellent, with the factory yellow paint dabs on most of the fasteners and the tacho's redline is still bright and not faded. The bike would make a perfect rider, (they were all this new once), since it looks good, but isn't over-restored or otherwise too nice to ride. With some polishing and detailing, it could make a nice museum piece, but outside of the Sandcast 750s, these were meant to be used, not collected, IMHO. I actually prefer the the F models, since they brought back the missing power that Honda had slowly been de-tuning from the K models over the years, and with a redesigned suspension and the rear disk brake, they handled like a bike weighing 100 pounds less and the stopping was improved over the K model's drum rear. For collectors and such, here is a list of things on the bike that are not original or show dings: -The points were replaced with a Dyna-S electronic ignition. It was intended to be a rider, and I am tired of adjusting points. -There was spark issues with cylinders 2-3, and a Honda mechanic diagnosed it as a bad 2-3 coil. I can only presume it corroded or deteriorated over the years. I replaced the coils with Dyna 6-ohm coils, (to match factory resistance). The bike starts and runs like a champ. -I spilled a drop of brake fluid on the left sidecover, so there is a raindrop-sized spot where the paint rubbed off. It's on the top, almost under the seat and not very noticeable. -The right sidecover has received a kludgy repair on the back side to reinforce an area that is starting to crack. The PO said that he was removing it to check the oil on a cold day and the grommets were hard and the cover wouldn't come off easily, so he forced it and it made like it wanted to crack, so he stopped and eased it off. He later "repaired" it with some fiberglass resin and it's sloppy, but strong and out of sight, so I didn't care much. -Speedometer has a ding on the 10 o'clock position. This occurred while the bike was in the owner's basement. A trophy or something fell from a shelf and landed on the speedo case, dinging it. -Tires are new Dunlop TT100 K81s. (Well, new in 2009. They have about 700 miles on them.) So there you have it. Not perfect, and collectors who want a 100% factory bike won't like the replaced ignition components, but as I said, all the mods are under the skin and the bike was meant to be a rider. In that role, it's perfect. Having such low miles, it's at the beginning of it's life, (37 years later!), yet it escapes the typical rot from sitting, since the whole thing has mechanically been gone through. It shows some wear and could use some polish for show, but I meant to use it, and didn't want to over-restore it, making it too nice. Then there's the belief that you can restore it a million times, but it's only original once. This one isn't 100% original, but has a few mechanical upgrades to help functionality. I also have two sets of F0/F1 headers as spares. The winner will get first crack at them. If they aren't wanted, they'll go for sale separately. Bike has a clear title and is ready to rock and roll. Upon close of the auction, $500 is due via Paypal within 48 hours. Final payment arrangements will be made at that time. I will assist in any way I can, but shipping is the buyer's responsibility.
