Vehicle Detail
First time offered for sale. This 1970 Chevelle was manufactured at the Leed's Plant in Kansas City, Mo.on June 8, 1970. Riley Chevrolet, Jefferson City, Mo., sold it new to Mary Thornton, Carrollton, Mo.. The cars history is preserved through build sheets, warranty information, original protecto-plate, original owners manual and service records. The Chevelle began as Astro Blue with White Vinyl Top and Pearl White interior bench seats. In 2007 the history trail resurfaces in Grainger, Indiana as a mild restoration begins with exterior paint, Black SS Stripes, Firestone (Coker) F70-14 White Letter Tires and era correct SS Wheels and new SS Hood. The interior and drivetrain at that time was left original unmolested. I purchased the car from Sleds N Scooters, Lebanon Tn. on June 24, 2008 a retail muscle car company operated by Burchett Ford-Lincoln Mercury. The car was delivered by enclosed trailer. The car arrived with what I belive to be original mileage of 91,121. The vehicle was thoroughly inspected and found to be pretty much unmolested, with perfect exterior paint, zero rust, perfect under carriage, original interior (in unbelievable condition). The car received a right lower quarter, but was very undetectable and finished out perfect. My plan was to finish the restoration to an immaculate SS. The condition of the car upon arrival made the decision easier, no frame off, it was not necessary. The restoration began immediately as I found original bucket seats from East Troy, Wisconsin. Luckily I found a complete SS console, M 21 4 speed, bell housing and pedals in storage with all parts from an original car that was used for 25,000 miles before the car was stripped for drag racing in South Lyon, Mi., so the restoration process began. The car received a complete interior transformation by Dave Grogan Classic Interiors, using era correct parts from Eckler's Chevelle. The SS interior included dash, instrument gauges, Autosound 200 Amp (era correct) AM/FM Radio with MP3 Player, carpet, tilt wheel (found locally from a Monte Carlo). The car received paint to the door jambs and correct splatter paint to the trunk. All work was performed to era correctness including detailing and paint to the engine area and cleaning and painting the under carraige. Updates were performed on the AC and it works flawlessly. Engine/Drivetrain: Chevy Crate H/O 454 Engine, Edelbrock 750 Cfm Carb, Hooker Ceramic Coated Headers, Flowmaster Exhaust Kit with nom correct chrome tips, MS 360 Distributor, New Aluminum Radiator, M 21 4 Speed Transmission with a Hurst/Muncie shift update kit, Centerforce Clutch, 12 Bolt Rearend ( Moser Rebuilt using Eaton Posi-3 series, 3:42 Pos Gear and 30 spline axle), Silver Vein One Inch Sway Bars, KYB Front Shocks, Monroe Rear Air Shocks. This car has been featured twice in local newspapers. I have attended Barrett-Jackson Auctions and this car is worthy to appear on stage, I'm certain. I am 60 years old with too many toys and not enough time, I can't stand to see them covered up in the garage. I have all receipts and pictures from the restoration, the car stands proud and sounds like a true 1970 SS Chevelle. You will not be disappointed, all SS details have been achieved right down to the gas line.
