Vehicle Detail
This is a water-cooled 1983 VW Westfalia Vanagon Camper. It currently has just over 142,000 miles on it. When I bought it in 2005 it had around 123,000 miles on it. The engine was replaced soon after I purchased it with an 2 liter completely rebuilt engine from a 92 Jetta which greatly improved the performance. With the new engine in it the bus is quick and does a great job climbing hills. On a flat surface the bus will pin the speedometer at 85 should you so desire. The transmission is an automatic. Mechanically the bus is in great shape. All the kitchen items such as the stove, refrigerator and sink work great. I also have both tables and the front passenger seat swivels to face backwards. I have all the curtains and screens. On the body these are a few minor rust spots of the seams and some minor paint chips. The canvas on the poptop has a patch and some marks on it with a small tear on the screen. I was going to replace the canvas but hadn't got around to it. The upholstery is a bit dirty but in good shape with no stains or tears. The inside panels on the sliding door and rear door have cracks in them. About 5 years ago the bus was in an accident when a car sideswiped the left side middle. Two panels were cut out and replaced. Below is a list of the improvement that I have made to the bus since I have owned it. Repainted in 2005. The original front seats were replaced with Rocarro LXF seats. The engine is a 1992 2liter Jetta conversion. The engine was completely rebuilt and installed by The Autobahn Society in Braselton, GA in 2005. New water pump, head gasket, valve guides, timing belt 2012 New radiator at time of engine conversion Wheels are Mercedes 16 x 7.5" Alloy Tires are Cooper 205/60 R16 with stiff sidewalls Replacement LPG tank for propane to meet current safety standards Alpine Stereo with CD, Radio and iPod hookup Infinity Speakers front and rear Alpine 4 channel Power Amp Yakima Roof Rack Trailer Hitch with 2" box Rebuilt entire front suspension Replaced Master & Booster Brake Cylinders Replaced front calipers Auxiliary Battery South African 4 Headlight Grill Halogen Headlight & Driving Lights Overall these improvements have cost me over $18,000 I have all the receipts for the work done.
