Up for auction is a 1972 Datsun 510 2 door Project. I have owned this car, on and off, since 1987 when I bought it from the original owner with only 32K miles on it. This was my first 510. I have sold it and it has found its way back to me 4 times over the years. It just came back again last month and I realize that I have too many other projects and I will not have time for this one so I hope someone out there will give this car the love it deserves. Car is Located in Maryland in the suburbs of Washington, DC. It mostly sat in a garage from 1997 until last year. It was last on the road in 2007. The body is very straight but it does have its share of east coast rust with the worst of it being in the lower dogleg sections in front of the rear wheel wells. I sourced a nice set of doglegs sections from a west coast car that are included with the car for patch panels. The right lower rear quarter panel also has a few spots that will need patching. The trunk is very solid including the spare tire well. The rockers are solid too. The floors are very good with the exception of a few small holes that will need attention. The left front fender was pushed in and will need to be replaced and I am including a nice replacement fender for it. The car has original paint and only 98,000 miles on it. It is nice to find a car that still has its original paint because you can see what you are dealing with and not wonder what is hiding under the primer. The black painted spots are a rust converter product similar to POR15 that was applied back in 2000 and the rust has not gotten worse since then. The interior is exceptionally clean. The dash is beautiful. The pad is not cracked and the gauges, including a factory tachometer are nice. The door panels are very clean and the rear interior panels are nice too. They are a deep dark rich black color without the typical fading. The carpet is in great shape and the rear seat is nice without rips or tears. The front seats are from a Porsche 944 and are nice and supportive. The entire interior is nice and clean and ready to use as it is. The ignition and doors are keyed alike. The trunk lock was replaced and has a separate key. Rear bumper is straight and chrome is decent. I sourced a replacement front bumper which is included. The brakes and suspension has been upgraded and includes: 280ZX front struts/brakes with coilover springs and koni inserts and a 1” Quickor sway bar and camber plates. The rear brakes are rebuilt stock brakes with Datsun 1200 wheel cylinders and 240Z aluminum finned drums. Lowering springs with Koni shocks and a 7/8” Quickor adjustable rear sway bar. The Slotted mag wheels and tires are a matched set and are period correct for the car. The car does not have an engine or transmission installed so this is the perfect candidate for an engine swap. Car comes with an L20B engine and 5 speed transmission too. The engine came to me with another car I bought and I was told by the previous owner that the engine was rebuilt but never installed. I can’t verify this but it does look to be rebuilt. If you don't want the engine/trans. I might be willing to keep them and adjust the final price. Contact me before auction ends to work this out. I have the front bumper, headlight assemblies, Grill and headlight surrounds, grill trim, turn signal assemblies, etc. to put it all back together and they are included with the car. Overall, this is a complete, straight 2 door 510 with a known history since new. Come buy it and give it a good home. This car is a rare find as these cars are getting harder and harder to find, especially 2 doors. You can come and check it out in person and I know you will want to buy it. If you want a 510 project on the east coast, this is a good one to buy. Install the motor and trans and start enjoying this car now while you work on the body restoration.
