This truck is a true BARN FIND truck, recently recovered from our client's family farm where the truck had been sitting since a restoration in the 1980s. We went through the mechanicals, refreshed the fluids, replaced the spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap and fired her up. We also went ahead and did the brakes on all four corners to ensure that she could drive AND stop. The carb does its job but will likely need a rebuild soon to ensure consistent fuel flow. Every time we went to see this truck, we were more amazed at its originality and rarity. We know our NAPCO's and this is the first GMC Big Window NAPCO we've seen with the factory V8 (as indicated by the VIN). The motor appears to be the original Pontiac 316 cu in motor that was specific to 1956...according to our client, his uncle bought the truck from his friend in the 1970s and this friend had bought it new. Thus, the cab, bed and motor are original to the frame. GMC did not stamp the frame with the VIN in 1956. The 4WD system works as it should and the 4 spd (with "Granny first gear) shifts wonderfully and scoots this old truck right along. Rust: As previously stated, the truck was restored in the 1980s and it is apparent that it was done with a great deal of money involved! It does appear that the cab corners were fixed at that time so at present, the rust there is very minimal compared to what we are used to seeing. The hinges are solid and so are the running boards. The cab floor in front of the driver has some pinholes but is very strong...watch the video to see all the areas of concern. There is NO rust in the frame rails or body mounts...just surface rust that would brush right off. The body of the truck is nice and straight with minimal denting or damage. There does not appear to be any filler on the truck but it is apparent that it is wearing a few coats of paint. The wheels and tires are obviously not original to the truck but are in good shape. The chrome shows some pitting and surface rust but it is re-usable. The bed of the truck is non-existent but the bed rails are present and in great shape. The interior of the truck is very original but is functional. The seat will need to be recovered but is fine as-is. The dash shows signs of age but the fuel and amperage gauges do work as they should...they others do not. There is so rust above the front windshield but since the windshield will need to be replaced anyways, this is an easy job to take care of since it is not too deep...just bubbles in the paint. This truck is being offered at NO RESERVE as it needs to go to a home where it will be enjoyed for the rare piece of history that it is. You can drive it now or restore it...it is complete and running and needs very little to be a reliable driver. The rare GMC grill insert is included with the sale.
