Vehicle Detail
Hi I'm auctioning my 1997 Honda Del Sol S model. Pros:It's the base model (S) with the D16Y7 engine for those fuel efficient buyers. However don't let this base model fool you, it has plenty of pickup entering an acceleration lane and cruises easily at highway speeds still averaging mpg in the mid 30's. No need to feel unsafe as this car has it all; style, great handling, comfort, safety, reliability and lots of fun factor especially with the targa top off. The motor runs clean, strong and does not burn oil. The transmission shifts freely as it should without any grinds. The air conditioning works well and blows very cold through the vents, it does not need any addition of refrigerant or service of any kind done to it. The targa top seals as it should and does not leak in heavy rain. It currently has an inspection sticker good through 2014. I have included a picture of the cigarette lighter never being used indicating a non smoker car. This was the last model year produced and also the most sought after. You'll be highly pressed to find one unmolested and with low mileage! Cons:Cooling system: This car sat for quite sometime and as a result the coolant/antifreeze developed corrosion within the engine. As the car started being used again these corrosion deposits began to break loose and clog/block the radiator causing the motor to overheat only during highway speeds but never during local city driving. As a result I changed the radiator with a brand new Toyo radiator and at the same time installed a Tefba coolant filter. This filter has been catching any loose debris circulating through the cooling system and STOPS the radiator from becoming clogged!! As an alternative, there are chemical solutions that can be used to dissolve the internal corrosion. I have not needed to go this route as the filter I installed has been getting the job done! I have been driving this car for the last few months without any ill effects. Just keep your eye on the filter and clean it out when needed. I've been checking it roughly 3 times a week and/or after a long drive. Even though it may not be necessary to check it as often, I like to know what's going on with the coolant! The Tefba filter can be cleaned WITHOUT draining ANY coolant. Just twist off the top, pull the stainless steel screen out and shake the debris loose and reinstall, that"s it! Corrosion. As you know the north east is a corrosion area, that being said this car has been in NJ most of its life. There is a fair amount of corrosion on the under belly of the car. Not so much on the rear quarter panels as you would expect for a civic of this era. I've seen others that are far worse still being driven on the road. I have included some pictures of the underside as well as inside the trunk showing the rust that has developed in those areas. There are other areas that are not shown. I believe in the right hands this car can be saved from such a fate as it still looks controllable if intervened with as soon as possible! Body damage: as you can see from the pictures there is some body damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel as well as scrapes and dents on the front bumper and front fender of which I included pictures of. There are also small white streaks across the passenger door that is not visible in pictures. Conclusion: Overall this is a great little car perfect for commutes and for a college student. Because of the low mileage and civic reliability this still makes a stellar of a car! Honda does not make cars like this any more, a true drivers car. I have described this Honda del Sol the best that I can from the short time that I have owned it. I need a bigger car otherwise I would keep driving this beauty! The mileage will vary from that which is listed due to the fact that I am still currently driving it. However once the auction has ended it will be parked in the driveway awaiting its new owner! I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. please see payment info
