Vehicle Detail

1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser 455 Rocket 8 Passenger LOADED. VIN 3k66u2m138671 Mileage 82134 I am a Vista Cruiser lover since I was a teenager and hate to part with this one but need to sell her. I been the owner for the past 2 years and really enjoyed to drive her. Everyone that has ridden with me really likes the ride and comments on how deluxe she is. I like the seating for me and all my friends and family….. and the muscle car engine. I found an engine VIN stamp 32M138671 and my mechanic friend told me it found the head cast #s Ga 409100 block 396021F. Engine and transmission original to the car and she fires right up. 455 4BBL Big Block, 250 stock HP (estimated low). Engine strong, smooth and nice flow master duel exhaust sounds awesome. What I like about this car is it is not hacked up like EVERY other one of them I had found previously for sale. Things are still wired and parts match the car. The engine has some minor updates due to the Edlebrock 455 performance intake I see and the nice rumble from the cam. The motor has not been leaking except for a little out of the valve cover gaskets that I gently tightened up. I spent some money and had ALL the fluids flushed at my mechanic when I first got it to make sure everything was ready to roll; New belts, etc. She got a clean bill of health and I have enjoyed her ever since. My strategy has always been to have a road worthy car, even if the paint isn’t as shiny as I want it to be. The transmission works good, red fluid leak found the other day. Will tighten pan bolts to see if that works. The suspension and steering are tight and straight. Rear springs replaced with new AC Delco upgrades that are specific for this model. All new brake rotors, drums master cylinder and replaced rubber lines everywhere. New windshield and mechanical washer pump. She passed Utah’s strict Safety check every year and still licensed. The car is original as to paint and interior ( and yes it has the third seat ) and shows wear and tear but is still in fair shape considering its 40 years on the planet. The seats are in great shape. The body is solid all doors hood tailgate fit and hinge tight with proper gaps roof has some rust around windows and two rust spots in lower fenders ( two small areas cut out in tailgate for rust repair ) underside is virtually rust free As legend has it, the guy I bought this from told me this car was in the Rose Parade in 1972. He said I could check it out in the paper from back then to verify it but it looks like you have to pay a subscription to get old microfiche online. I was never able to validate the story, but this car is from southern California so it just might be true. It was shipped to a dealership in Pasadena CA. It was first serviced on November 8, 1971 (listed on the Protect-o-plate and New Vehicle Warrantee Card with the first owner’s name and address). The Mileage shown likely to be the original based on the overall condition of the seats, pedals, undercarriage, original bias-ply spare tire, jack, PRNDL sector switch works perfectly, and original T3 highbeams that burn brite, original sticker by the gas cap, etc. Some options that I think are noteworthy: Protecto-Plate, Warrantee card, and miscellaneous Olds documentation Original manuals White exterior (Rare, never seen before) Brown interior (nice, even in today’s color preferences) Power Steering Power Disk Brakes Power Windows (not a common option in a family mover) Power Door Locks AC (pump engages when Air Condition selected, blower motor quit on me a few months ago) Third seat (Forward Facing) Front Stabilizer bar (stock) Rear Stabilizer bar (appears to be Stock! Never seen before) Boxed rear trailing arms (appears to be Stock! Never seen before) Heavy Duty rear drum cylinders Locking rear storage (never seen before, option code …) Chrome Tail light tips on the fins of the lens (never seen before) Mirrored vista glass (the desirable option instead of Smoke or Clear) Luggage Rack and rear wind spoiler (must have been off another car) Spare tire and all the jack, bumper attachment piece , and wrench AM/FM Stereo (light on but doesn’t play anything) Olds Rally sport wheels Two Way tailgate with Power Window that works I have seen several aftermarket magazines and online parts places that sell replacement pieces for the Cutlass and some for the Vista Cruiser. Things have never been better for fixing up a great wagon like this. One of them even sells the tailgate emblems. $500 pay pal due within 24 hours of auction close full payment within 5 days of auction end no exceptions do not bid if you cannot follow through with terms of sale Sold as-is, where-is, with clear title. Will try to facilitate a car carrier pickup for you if necessary. Thanks for looking! Note: I also have a great 1972 Vista Cruiser service manual CD ROM and some other goodies you may be interested in for a little extra at the end of the auction. On Aug-16-12 at 20:26:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a few questions that I have answered directly and want to address here. This has the usual rust on it in all of the common Vista Cruiser trouble spots; Around the Vista Glass, on the back corners of the rear windows, on the tail gate, and the corners of the front fenders. Like I said in my main descriptions, my main focus was making her safe to drive and enjoy. I have over $7000 invested in making her run as good as she does, but am willing to sell her now for less than I have into her because of the trouble spots. I am not a body guy and did not feel right cutting, welding, and jamming a bunch of bondo into all the trouble spots just to get her ready to sell. What you see is what you get, no bondo here :) Bottom line is you bennefit from all the previous work done and you will get to "ice the cake" and put the finishing touches on her the way you want to. As far as the seats go someone pointed out that they must have been recovered at some point in time. I could not tell initially because they were so well done I never gave it a second tought. The front seats match the second seats in color, texture, and design. They fit so well and are clamped and stapled just like the factory did it. Someone before me must have used a pro and paid a lot of money to get the seats to look this good. There is a lot of work in the folding seats to make them come out right. There is also new carpet installed with Dyna-mat under it for sound proofing. Whoever did the carpet bought the full station wagon kit since it goes all the way to the far rear seat. Some kits you get you to under the middle rear seat, but this one is deluxe. I have found some parts and pieces that will go along with this auction: the engine cross bars, lower AC vent valence and ducting with screws and clips, steering yolk plastic trim, new turn signal cancel switch (the one in there looks like the original). Additinonally to sweeten the deal I will be thowing in the 1972 Service and Body manual CD. The CD is a Dave Graham original and is awesome because it is not a crappy scan job on a xerox. It was gone through and made text searchable and the indexes are clickable and jump you directly to the section of interest. For researching stuff about anthing on the 1972s, this is better than having books! And because you have all been so nice, I will be throwing in a matching white Matchbox Vista Cruiser toy car :) Not everyone has a matchbox that matches their dream machine!!! As far as shipping I did get a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers of $650 to go from my closest drop off location to Los Angeles California. Thanks for looking and keeping posted. Enjoy the rest of the auction and I hope my wagon finds a good home :)
