Vehicle Detail
California car, absolutely no rust. Original paint, but clear coat stripped in places. No damage, except minor dings; front turn signal lens and left fog lamp damaged. Front spoiler repaired. Interior leather and carpets good, except for driver seat and dashboard top. (Apparently many were replaced with the regular 635 top. Previous owner had a carpeting top fitted. See photos) Driven as everyday car since August 1996 by third owner. Regular BMW service through 154,000 miles. Transmission replaced with factory rebuilt at 150,000 miles. Owner maintained since, except for major services. All records kept. BF Goodrich V rated M+S radials about half worn. Mechanical deficiencies: Small hydraulic leak. AC does not work. A steering link is worn causing a shimmy when braking between 40 and 50 mph. The rear universal is worn causing a vibration at high-torque low speed. Car is unlikely to pass California smog test, although new non-California approved Bosal catalytic converter installed 4 years ago. Buyer specifically acknowledges that seller will not be responsible for passing smog test (a normal California requirement.) Driver interior door release needs to be replaced. Electrical: Take heart. The sale includes a BMW electrical troubleshooting manual (100 pages or so) specifically for the L6 and M6 1987 models which is extremely detailed and useful. The radio does not work as a casette is jammed in it. Some panel lights are out, including the back light on the trip computer. The abs warning light stays on in spite of a new sensor, as does a brake warning light. The door interlocking circuits don't work. This car is still a great autobahn cruiser and, with only some 1800 sold, potentially a collector item.
