Vehicle Detail

PHS documented Pontiac GTO. I bought this car in Arizona from the original owner. The 389 engine is the original motor. The original owner, however, swapped out the factory three speed transmission for the four speed muncie that is now in the vehicle. He did not, however, retain the original three speed transmission that came with the car. It is very easy to locate another three speed manual transmission that is date coded to 1965 if you want to turn the car to its original condition (the 1965 transmissions are only date coded to the year of the car and were not matched to the VIN on the 1965 GTO's). I have spent a significant amount of money getting the car ready for a frame off restoration. The motor was completely torn down and professionally rebuilt by a machinist who specializes in rebuilding engines for high end classic cars. All parts in the engine were either replaced or reconditioned. The engine rebuild included a complete reciprocating and rotating balance, a double timing chain and gears, new mild camshaft, new pistons, all new bearings, new oil pump, and new valvetrain. The block was hot tanked and decked (heads and exhaust ports). The surfaces on the block are so level that the exhaust manifolds don't have or need a gasket where they mate to the block. The surface of the exhaust manifolds, as well as the intake manifold, were decked as well to ensure a perfect mate to the block. The engine rebuilder was so meticulous that I actually watched him disassemble the brand new out of the box oil pump, so he could clean it out himself before it was put into "his" motor. He then refused to allow me to put the motor back in the car until I replaced the gas tank with a brand new tank. The dual exhaust was custom built by Charles who appears on the television show "Pinks" on the Speed Channel. Charles offerred to buy the car years ago when I came to his shop to pick up the GTO after he built the exhaust for the car. The mechanical condition of this car is that good. The exhaust is capped off with Flowmaster 50 mufflers and sounds awesome (a nice deep slightly loping thunder). I just completed a thourough suspension rebuild including all new upper and lower control arms, coils, shocks, idler arms, drag link, sway bar, and all suspension bushings etc. I added a brand new quick ration power steering box, a brand new set of wheels and tires, and a power front disk brake kit. I have put only about 20 miles on the car since the suspension rebuild and new tires and wheels. I added an HEI, aftermarker intake manifold, and carburator to make the car more driveable. I retained the original manifold, carburator, and distributor, which will all go to the new owner. The car is complete and is not missing anything. The pictures show the car without the chrome trim that runs along the bottom of the car, but I have those stored in my garage and they will go with the car as well. This car lived in Arizona for a large portion of its life with the exception of one year when the Arizona owner moved to New Jersey only to return to Arizona with the car. The few problem areas of the car include the rear lower quarter panel that has a few small rust bubble and the truck floor. These are common areas for such problems because water would often leak into the trunck when the trunk moldings became dried out and cracked. Aftermarket companies sell complete trunk floors and the bottom rear quarter patch panel pretty cheaply. This car is ready to go to the paint and body shop, whether you want to paint it as a very nice "driver" or, instead, decide to do a complete frame off restoration. I am only the second owner of this fine GTO. I have the original owners manual, service manual, and even the original Protechto Plate that came with the car. I listed mileage as 999,999 because I do not know the actual mileage on the car.
