Vehicle Detail

I don't know about you but some of my fondest memories are riding around with my grandpa in his old Chevy pickup. The allure of an old GM vehicle is very strong when you were born with bow ties coursing through your veins like I was. When I open the door to this great original survivor the nostalgia almost takes my breath away. Not only is it a beautiful piece of Americana from greater days gone by but I feel like a kid again hanging my arm out the window and feeling the lift of the wind as my outstretched fingers raise up and down like an airplane wing. As I drive along I can hear my grandpa answering my never ending questions about the world we live in and finally giving in and telling me that the reason things were any certain way was so that little boys would ask questions. You can't put a price on memories like that. So I guess what I'm selling here is a time machine, anyone up for a ride back in time? You will not be disappointed in any way. This truck oozes the best of times we all long for. I feel like I'm completing some great life circle as i take my 11 year old son on trips to the lumber store or out to a root beer float each weekend. I really don't want to see her go but I just have to many cars and to many irons in the fire to keep her in the driveway. I know I have enjoyed my trips in the time machine and now it's time to let someone else take those trips down memory lane. First let me say I live in Boise Idaho. What makes that special is that this truck was sold here brand new by Cole Oldsmobile, GMC in 1972. It was owned by the same family until a few years ago. It was purchased by the man who sold it to me at that time and he drove it weekly for trips to the hardware store. It has only 98K miles and that's because it's probably never left town in 40 years of life. It has original paint, wheels, interior, trim, motor, transmission, etc and though the paint is a little thin in a place or two its there in all its glory with a patina that impresses all onlookers. The interior is unreal in its condition. It shows very little wear. The headliner and visors are like new. The original dash has no cracks and every gauge in the dash works great. The woodgrain glovebox is near perfect and the AC blows ice cubes. I believe the windshield is original too and it has only one very small bullseye. All other glass is near flawless. The original seat cover has been recovered as the houdstooth cover from 1972 had finally worn through. Door panels are incredible for their age and the 40 year old carpet shows wear but is great considering the vintage. The motor is flawless. It starts every time you turn the key. Usually without any pumps of the accelerator. It runs smooth, clean, and without a single rattle. It leaks NO drops of anything on the ground! The transmission shifts perfectly every time and it rolls down the road strait and true. There is no wander to the steering or braking. The original 350 purrs and has only changed for the better with a new Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carb and an HEI system. The 12 bolt posh-traction rear end is strong and quiet at all speeds. The brakes work like new and the tires have less than 1000 miles on them. The exhaust is quiet and has a new muffler. Every light and blinker works perfectly. Heater and AC are in great working order. The exterior is really the only place that shows any wear. Even that is not much. The paint is not perfect but if you like patinas that show character you'll love the finish. The hood and roof have worn through to the primer here and there but he surface is glossy top to bottom. There is no rust I can see anywhere from rockers to floor pans. The trim shines like new and besides a few tastefully applied screws to hold it on is in great shape. Bumpers, grilles, panels etc are unbelievably strait for an all original survivor. Not perfect but unreal condition for its age. Even the original spare is still hanging there in all its glory. I guess I should wrap this up. I know it seems crazy to let a truck like this go, they just don't come along every day and I would look high and low to find a replacement in this overall condition. I just feel it's time to let someone else enjoy the things I love about this great vehicle. I know this truck will be here for another 40 years with little work to be done. Change the oil, wax the paint, drive it now and then and your great, great grandson will think of you as he pulls up beside that 2052 Prius and smiles knowing his blood runs strong like the men who cared enough to save this time machine for him to appreciate his past.
